I just don't understand the whole take a QB in the first round idea. Unless there's a serious franchise starter. A Joe Burrow type player. Most teams would do better building up their roster and finding a serviceable QB later in the draft

i agree. i think there are 2 sides to it. if there are guys being evaluated as studs and you agree (>50% chance at being long term qb solution), keep firing until you hit one and go from there.

if it's a class like this? call off the dogs and go elsewhere.

let's give cam ward a 33% chance at being an above average nfl starter (probably generous). what's more valuable? taking him and then an edge later on that has a 20% chance at being an above average nfl starter?

or you could take an edge that has a 75% chance at being an above average nfl starter and then fire a qb dart (maybe pun intended there?) that has a 10% chance at it later on.

even taking positional value into account, it doesnt make any sense to take a qb just because they are a qb. if they suck, they suck.

I'm not saying they'll all be Brock Purdy, but when you're a team consistently picking in the top 10 it's b/c your roster overall has issues. Build your OL, DL, and secondary up. The Eagles are the model for this day and age of football. Taking Hurts 53rd overall, and running an offense that fits his skill set that also fits the design of the team.

Because if you don't have a QB you have nothing, and QBs get inflated value for that reason. If you don't take him someone else will.

And...no one knows. Guys everyone think are going to be great are bums and people no one talk about become all time greats.

Take your shot

Consider this: I asked an NFL offensive coordinator where Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph would rank in this draft class, had he been coming out with the rest of the group. The coordinator placed him third.

This is dumb. The QB class sucks but this is not even remotely true.

Not exactly a glowing endorsement of these guys.

Nobody has given glowing endorsements for this QB class. It has been known for a while now this is not a great year. This isn't breaking news.

Picking qbs has historically been a 50/50 exercise, like almost down to the number. Ryan Russillo has done a great job breaking this down in the past if you can dig it up. the theory is, it’s 50/50 whether you take them round 1, round 2, round 3, etc. Some of the best guys in the league are round 4 draft picks and some of the guys that suck were top 10 picks. So, you take the QB in round 1 to get the 5th year option on the rookie contract. If you hit on that 50/50 proposition, you control a $50-60 million a year player for 3 of 4 years at like $10 million a year freeing up a ton of cap space.

We see this scenario playing out with SF right now, they are having to make huge roster moves because Purdy was making like $850k and they’re about to pay him like $40 million AAV

Feel like Abdul Carter may be the only can't miss guy. Hunter worries me with the amount of plays he already has on his body.

Derek Carr was the QB, president, class king, GM of the URec, and also lead surgeon at the hospital at Fresno St.

Edit: He also had a monopoly lawn mowing business.

Agree. With the rule changes always benefitting offense, Edge rushers and lockdown corners are much more valuable than quarterbacks. You can get a kid out of North Dakota in the 3rd round and he may start for 15 years at QB, or you could draft one #1 overall and he be the biggest bust in history (Jamarcus Russell).
