Are MLB teams required to list their starting pitchers before the game?

I've noticed over the past month or so the Mariners almost never name their starting pitcher before the game starts.
Is there a rule that requires teams to name who their starter is going to be? Why not keep it secret until the game starts so teams can't prepare?

Well obviously not

The Mariners often use an "opener"....in other words, a reliever who pitches the 1st inning only, then the "bulk" pitcher comes in and pitches as long as he can. It is designed to give the "bulk" guy a chance to start the game by not facing the top of the other team's order.
And it is obvious this strategy is working like a charm as the Mariners are a mere 27 games out of 1st place in the AL West.
The Rays actually have used this effectively. It is basically an admission that your "starting pitchers" are crap.

No but its pretty easy to figure out who will be pitching based on the rotation and who pitched last game, at least for the teams with good pitching staffs. If you're like Toronto then it can be a guessing game like tonight, I think it will be a bullpen game for them.

I’m sure it’s a gentlemen’s agreement for all. This sounds like a dick move somebody like Tony LaRussa would do.

Ha! yeah, he was/is a dick...no doubt. But he was the best manager in baseball...just ask him.

Pitching rotation for most teams is predictable, so there’s no secret to keep.
The starting lineups are official only when the manager gives his card to the home plate umpire. In every press box, there will be a stack of lineup sheets printed for media a few hours before the first pitch, but those are officially unofficial until said manager gives said card to said ump. Once in a while, a lineup change happens during this time, and word spreads in the press box and broadcast trucks, and new sheets are printed.

Yes, the "rule" is that the starting pitcher gets listed on the lineup card. These are usually announced hours in advance of the game. I think the deadline is three hours before game start time, but sometimes teams release their lineup earlier or later than that for a variety of reasons.
