Astros Radio Network in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge's affiliate, WUBR 910AM, is not airing the Astros games this year but is listed as an affiliate. I have reported this to the Astros' front office rep Chris Garcia, but in the meantime, which BR radio station would make the best ARN affiliate?
104.5 ESPN? Seems like the best fit, and with two stations, would cover the Greater Baton Rouge area very well.
1150AM WJBO? There hasn't been a sports presence on JBO since LSU left, maybe this is their opportunity to brand themselves as something beyond just political talk.
107-3 WBRP? Seems like this talk station would be a good FM affiliate when they are not airing LSU women's sports.

Yes, but there is something special about listening on terrestrial radio.

Not everyone has unlimited data on their phones chicken.

Which stations stream their games?

Used to be my favorite past time listening to Milo Hamilton and Larry Dierker do PBP on 1300 WIBR. Can't figure out why Baton Rouge doesn't broadcast the games any longer.

Why would anyone want to listen to the fricking Astros?!?!?!

Harder than it sounds nowadays.
First you have to clear 3-4 hours a day for 162 days. If your a talk or sports station, that's a lot of moving pieces.
Second it's a tough sell out of market advertiser wise. Lucky if you can find a couple sponsors and you almost have to give it away.
Baseball of all sports can kill a music station. # of games being the first problem. Ppl tune in for country music or whatever and a game is on? They're gone at that point
I had a couple deals in places (not LA) where the team paid us a small fee to carry their games. Helped us cover our cost (those days there were some cost) and could justify having the "prestige" of being a affiliate to ownership.
Teams wouldn't do that now, they'd say listen online for 9.99 a month

I just listen to the KBME broadcasts through the MLB At Bat app.

Thank you for the explanation. I guess that I am behind the times as far as streaming and other technologies are concerned.
Also...I was always curious how programming and advertisement costs were figured. X amount of dollars to operate a station and buying programs and such. Never studied the economics side of it though.

Here in New Orleans I listen to the games on 1560 am. It can be a little fuzzy at times, but it gets the job done when I don't want to use the At Bat app on my phone. Do you not pick up that station in BR?

The Rangers would be more entertaining.

Yeah I agree. Listening to teams take batting practice off of Sam Dyson never gets old.
West Division titles (7) 1996 1998 1999 2010 2011 2015 2016
The Astros won one series over us, BFD.

I seriously doubt any station in BR would ever carry the rangers, plus iirc it's the Astros home market so couldn't happen anyway
On the cost etc running any type of talk station is more costly. You've got more people you have to employ. Plus if your in a market with major league teams, you as a station have to have dedicated type employees to cover them.
Bidding on rights in the city of play is outrageous. Stations lose money on those contracts. They can make it up on programming around the team (s) your the flagship for but stations don't make money just on the games, think ESPN right now, same concept. Overpay for rights and you could be screwed

Baseball on the radio is awesome.

Astros were not in the division in the 90's so who cares. Plus they had some really good teams during that time.

Solid first post.
Also, doesn't 1560AM go silent at night?
I thought they were a daytime only station.
According to radio-locator.com, WSLA is daytime only, but that website has been wrong before.
WSLA carries to Albany then it becomes fringe.
1060AM carried the Stros in 1996 or 1997, and that station used to reach Walker at night. Not sure if it reached BR.
WIBR struggled to make it into Walker at night, but during daytime operation it was extremely clear.

Yeah I tried to listen to game tonight and the radio wasn't having it! Thanks for nothing, West Coast! Had to burn some data on the phone, but it was worth it to hear the extra inning win!
Also, been lurking on Tigerdroppings for a long time, but since the 'Stros are destined to win it all this year I've come out of the woodwork!
