Candace Parker: It's usually guys that don't play basketball that disrespect the WNBA

From Bill Simmons' old Page 2 column to rants from "Bob in Philly" or "HoopsGuy11" on Twitter, the WNBA has taken shots from average Joes since its inception, while NBA pros have been busy playing pick-up with their female counterparts and sitting courtside at their games.

"Female ballers don't get disrespected by NBA players," says Parker. "They understand the time, effort and skill set to perfect the pull-up jump shot. You don't have to do a windmill [dunk] to perfect a midrange game or to shoot the three or to be able to handle. It's usually dudes that don't play basketball that disrespect the WNBA."

Parker's over trying to convince Joes her age to respect the game; she's too busy raising the next generation with the right attitude.

"We're now starting at the youth level," says Parker. "As a woman athlete I know that there's roughly the same amount of guys coming up asking for autographs on my jersey as there are girls. Times are changing. I don't think my daughter has ever heard 'You play like a girl' because that's not acceptable nowadays. We're starting with the correct generation. The generation that I believe has it wrong? Well, I don't have any words for them."

Most sports fans aren't athletes

And it doesn't take a genius basketball mind to figure out the difference in quality between the WNBA and the NBA.

One of my close friends was a female college basketball player. She is a huge NBA and Spurs fan and doesn't get one frick about the WNBA.

This seems to be the ultimate “I’m above you” type of rant. It’s not about respect Candace, it’s that women’s hoops isn’t entertaining compared to the men’s product. As an ‘average Joe fan’, why would I go out of my way to attend or watch a sport that I don’t find entertaining?

She's right. My life long neighbor played D1 women basketball. Me and my brothers (none of us ever played a single minute of high school basketball) whipped her arse on the daily growing up.

You tell em, Candace. I get tired of those damn sexist men who are into musical theater and home furnishings ripping the WNBA too.

I played basketball and think the WNBA is a joke. I've played against all-Americans from Baylor and A&M and both were rendered impotent by average high school and rec league players.

The only reason it's lasted longer than even 1 season is because it's subsidized by the NBA.

Yeah because every women’s college team gets a group of average high school boys to scrimmage against and the guys have to go like 3/4 so it’s competitive.

I have respect for women’s basketball in the fact that any WNBA player would beat arse in basketball or one on ones. But the guys would destroy me as well. If you were to ask me which athletes to pay for to see, I’m only paying for an NBA game. I’m gonna see the top athletes at thier top game. You could pay me to see an NWBA game, but I’ve never been to one, nor would I pay to see the WNBA . Luckily Denver doesn’t have a team, and even if they did, I’d rather go to Rockies, Broncos, nuggets, Avalanche, Or Red Rocks. I’m honestly surprised WNBA makes it anywhere. Comparatively the WNBA stands no where among American professional sports leagues. Do they even make a profit?

I can watch women's Olympic soccer, I can watch women's Olympic softball (especially when Jennie Finch was pitching) but I can't watch women's basketball.

There's something really off-putting about it. Like, what's the point?

They need better uniforms.

Women in baggy arse long shorts is a HORRIBLE and off-putting look.

Good lord, why would they put a woman in that uniform?!

WNBA is awful. Those women should be thankful our society and our economy make it possible for them to get paid for something so awful.

A team of average joes vs WNBA all stars would be a pretty good game, plus I would actually watch that
