Clippers trading SGA

Where does this rank on worst NBA trades of all-time?
Clippers sent OKC SGA, Danilo, 5 first round picks and 2 first round swaps for Paul George which resulted in one WCF appearance.

Even tho Oladipo died the Pacers got a good return for PG and turned Sabonis into Haliburton.

It’s an all timer but in the moment he put up 10 ppg so at the time it wasn’t horrible

He was a pretty known commodity in the basketball world. None of this is a surprise for him. If I remember right, he was the key piece in the trade. Gallo was immediate impact but on an expensive deal. SGA was the real value for Presti.

I think this trade highlights the big brain moves of OKC/Sam Presti more than a knock on the Clippers.
In hindsight, yes it was pretty terrible for Clippers of course.
But it was one of many great moves for OKC dating back to that trade.

Pretty crazy when you look at it like this:

Presti will pick your pocket and smile, and ask you for money when you notice your wallet is gone

Sure he always had big potential but nobody, NOBODY, thought they were trading for a future 32 ppg player when he put up 10 ppg as a rookie.
It’s like the Kobe-Vlade trade, you hope and you pray based on potential, but even Kobe took longer to flourish. Those are 2 guys I can think of that did that little as rookies then exploded, Harden now that I think about it. 3 guys in 30 years
Regardless, Clips got fleeced that’s a damn fact.

I mean, any time you get a chance to pull the trigger on Playoff P, you gotta send the farm

Presti's haul aside, I'd compare it to the Falcons trading Brett Favre after they had him for a year.
Both the Clippers and Falcons should have realized what they had but they were the Clippers and Falcons.

That shot before half was amazing. 2 minutes vs Boston. He has worked hard since trade and bid his time learning and practicing. He rarely complains to refs. Has so many moves he’s so hard to defend.
And yes, SGA is who Presti was after in that trade. Clippers even said at the time they almost didn’t do it because they knew the potential of SGA. Only did because they thought PG lit them over the top.

George was required to get Kawhi
Now with hindsight we can see it didn't work, but they did it to build a contender (and they did on paper)
SGA was a top prospect but nobody thought he was a MVP level prospect.
Galo was salary

yeah SGA torched the Celts tonight.
but as others have stated, at the time of the trade pretty much everyone would have done it. Didn't work out with injuries though.

SDV couldn’t afford to lose much more sanity before the trade. It honestly explains most of his posts across this site since then.

Presti is a wizard.
I have a sneaky feeling he knew how good SGA could be.
Remember Presti had KD, Westbrook, Harden, and Ibaka together for a while. They just couldn't get past the Spurs or Heat in their prime. Harden was traded, KD bailed (to play with Steph and get away from Westbrook).
And now Presti does it again starting from scratch. The dude knows talent.

And the Mavs only got AD and 1 first rounder for Luka. Mind-blowing still.
At the time the Clippers thought they were going all in, and on paper you can see where they thought they would be contenders. Can't blame a franchise for trying to win now. Of course, with hindsight the trade looks more lopsided.
