Did the Utah Jazz ever try to change their name?

I've been trying to find all of the hot Jazz haunts in Provo for years. J/k, but I'd love to learn any history I probably don't know from those that do.

The history is they were called the Jazz when they moved from NOLA to SLC and the name stuck. Not because Jazz music is big in Utah, but the team and brand are successful as frick here.

When I think of Jazz I think of white Mormons.

Most sports nicknames are lame as hell. No use in throwing away a perfectly good one like the Jazz just because you’re moving.

You could find more jazz musicians in Utah than lakes in Los Angeles

So illogical were the Utah Jazz, that an electronic band duo from Yorkshire named themselves Utah Saints, as a spoof of it..

You have to give the older team names some credit, they at least had some substance to them. The more recent names like “Commanders” and “Guardians”… I mean, how generic and bland can these teams get? It goes without saying the two aforementioned teams had a common thread…

Wasn't the long-standing theory that nobody thought there was a chance in hell that they would stay very long in Utah which is why they didn't bother changing the name? If they had decided to change their name and rebrand, they would have essentially been committing themselves long-term to the city. And by the time it was clear that the franchise was going to stay in Utah, the Jazz nickname had become a pretty significant brand due to Stockton and Malone. It was too late to switch by that point.

Utah has a lake, and Los Angeles has a music industry. Hmmm....
