He pronounces it Her-bert. But Bobby Hebert pronounced his name Ay-bear. I know Herbert is not Hebert, but Bobby Hebert never went by He-bert.

Why would you assume that Bobby can pronounce it correctly?

Speaking for the rest of the country, absolutely no one would think Herbert pronounced his last name (Er-bay) outside of you crazy arse French loving sonsofbitches down there.

Graduated law school with a girl whose last name was Herbert. Most of the professors (even the holier than thou Randy Trahan) pronounced it ay-bear and it pissed her off endlessly.

One of my early visits to Louisiana I was trying to tell someone I had bought Richard's they were confused until they caught I meant "ree-shards".

Op should take a whack at how many people get the last name Roy right or wrong.

You're talking to a Kentuckian hoss. We pronounce Versailles, KY "Ver-sales" and Athens, KY "Ay-thuns"

No one outside Ascension Parish knows how to pronounce St. Amant, Martinez, Cointmont, Savoy, or Gonzales either.

How weird must it be for T-Bob to have a whole Seinfeld scene talking about his dad?

Derived from the Germanic elements hari "army" and beraht "bright". The Normans introduced this name to England, where it replaced an Old English cognate Herebeorht.

So he probably doesn't want to be associated with those cheese eating surrender monkeys. Wiki says its pronounced just as he does.
