ESPN: Jamarcus Russell's contract is the worst contract in the history of sports

1. NFL: JaMarcus Russell, QB, Oakland Raiders
Guaranteed money: $39 million
As the No. 1 overall pick of the 2007 draft out of LSU, JaMarcus Russell was lucky to be drafted four years before the rookie wage scale kicked in. Russell turned into one of the biggest busts in NFL history, playing only 31 games and throwing for 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. What makes him a bigger flop is the ridiculous money -- $39 million collected for three years of doing nothing. Let's put this in perspective: It took Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers until November of last year to make $39 million. That's six-and-a-half years of decent work for what Russell basically stole.

I agree it was an awful contract for Oakland, but JR didn't "steal" the money. Just shows that the NFL took way too long to figure out guaranteed money

ESPN is wrong:

Nevertheless, starting on July 1, 2011, Bobby Bonilla will remain on the franchise's payroll for 25 years, collecting an annual salary of $1,193,248.20. Those are the terms the Mets agreed to Jan. 3, 2000, when they bought out the final year of Mr. Bonilla's contract.

Not Albert haynesworth 100 million dollar contract?
Or is this just out of the draft contracts?

You beat me to it. Mets are retarded. But we knew that.

I like how the article describes Rodgers as putting in..."decent work."
Worst over-priced contracts for value?
Every WNBA player who makes the maximum salary:
$101,000

Al Davis was an idiot for giving him that contract. Red flags should have gone up when Russell showed up at the combine overweight IMO.

Wait, explain bonilla's contract to me. I don't understand it

Should be Haynesworth by a lot. He started just 12 games for the Skins.

It wasn't a bad deal for either side. The Mets owed him about 6 million in 2000 or 2001 and wanted to buy him out but they also didn't want to pay him right then because they didn't want it to hurt their salary cap that year. Instead they agreed to pay him the money, with interest, starting in 2011. It works out to like 1.2 mil for 25 years but all they did was invest the $5.9 mil they would have paid him in 2001 and they are using the principal and interest to pay him now. It was a win-win...not a bad deal at all for people who understand money.

Baseball doesn't have a salary cap.

Hope Bonilla's money wasn't invested with Bernie Madoff.

Is Jamarcus even attempting to get back in the league? He's only 27, not exactly over the hill yet.

His deal was terrible. The deferred money isn't the reason. Oh, and baseball doesn't have a cap, they have a luxury tax. People that understood baseball would know that.

You didnt say what they invested in...
Bernie f'n Madoff...so they earned nothing and owe $25M
