Pending the Governors signature, 2nd year WAC member Dixie State will change its name to Utah Tech. The bill passed the Utah senate yesterday by a 17-12 vote. The school will retain the Trailblazers nickname.

Isn’t there a Dixie National Forest in Utah? What about Dixie counties (FL for one)?

I welcome the change. The move away from Dixie will help shed the linkage to the confederacy that's long plagued the state of Utah.

They'll always be Dixie State to me. Utah Tech? Way to try and pass yourself off as something you're not.

St. George, UT is a nice little town. I looked into it as one of the cities we were going to move to when we got out of Vegas. Opted for something else but St. George is nice and so is the school. Their sports complex is pretty legit for a smaller school.

I passed through campus on the way back from the UCLA game. Glad I got to see a National treasure before it was taken from us

The Dixie name used in Utah has nothing to do with the antebellum South. This is just another instance of people finding reasons to be offended

It was settled by southerners before the Civil war and they were able to grow cotton in Utah. The nickname of the team was Rebels before they changed it to Trailblazers.

But “tech” fricking triggers me. I associate that with the basketball infraction when a player or coach does something unsportsmanlike. Is that what we want in this country? Universities named after bad behavior?

There, my argument is just as valid as theirs.

There’s like two graphic design firms that all sports teams use for their redesigned logos. The redesigns are all very similar and all very shitty.
