I don’t understand why so many FCS schools want to move to FBS. I could understand if the G5 had their own playoff for a championship but playing for a conference championship and the New Orleans seems like a let down. The reason McNeese and NLU won championships was because the conference was competitive. Same for Furman and Ga Southern from the Southern Conference. That is why the Dakotas are so good.

FCS playoffs are a money pit…

Hence why the SWAC and Ivy League want no part

1) Fan bases don't have a lot of other options as far as things to do so they focus on the football teams. For instance, Montana had second highest average attendance in 2023 at 26,269 per game. That is more than SMU, Northwestern, Vandy, and Tulane. 9 of the FCS top 25 programs in attendance are in the Big Sky or MVFC (7 of the top 25 are HBCU's).

2) Traditionally they were able to recruit a lot of guys that were in states around them like Michigan, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota that were overlooked by the P5 schools. Most of those states don't have any FCS teams, or only have the ones that are the powerhouses. Easy to convince a kid to come win a national title at NDSU then to play a meaningless MAC game on a Tuesday night in November (not hating on MACtion). For the Louisiana FCS schools just in state there are 6 FCS teams and 5 FBS.

3) Outstanding coaching because they can afford to keep guys around long term.

Louisiana kids are also picked off by every other state. The talent isn’t much in those states so it’s easier for the home FCS to scoop it up

Ivy League might have second thoughts on that.

For a state that has 6 mil folks, there was no reason for Missouri to have just one program in the FBS. Springfield is a decent town for a recruit to play in.

I attended a Houston Christian (formerly Houston Baptist) Huskies football game once, which puts me in an elite percentage.

The quarterback that game is now with the Browns.

There is nothing really between the Power conferences and the FCS in this region. Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska have 3 FBS schools between them. Creates a huge void for football recruiting and fan support.

Meanwhile in the Southeast or Texas the FCS schools don't just have the power conferences but also a ton of lower level FBS schools to compete against.

I didn't know anything about FCS football until this year.

but your a Southern fan and they play FCS football. How does that work? Even if your knowledge is limited to the SWAC and HBCU ball, you still know something about FCS football.

Solid 4 Picks!
Only questionable one.. UC-Davis led by RB Lan Larison will be a tough challenge vs the So. Dakota Coyotes.

Big fan of the So. Dakota State Jackrabbits & North Dakota State Bison over the years! They put some quality players into the NFL.
These teams can give a good scare to 1/2 the FBS teams!

So.Dakota St went down to Hammond to hammer SE LA 41 - 0 earlier this season!

The Montana Grizzlies & Montana State Bobcats have been strong too!

But with the Bayou Classic ; ain't gonna happen!
