The next big thing in CFB made me think, what "trick" play in football would be best to make a semi regular playbook option?

My vote, hook and ladder. In regular game situations, the D will pursue and you can bust one.

I also considered the flea flicker and halfback pass, but I think you could more effectively scheme the hook and ladder.

Don’t think the risk equals the reward... you miss the toss with a WR running upfield in the middle of the defensive secondary, and it’s a guaranteed turnover.

For Arkansas, it would be a passing touchdown.

A hook and ladder is a fire fighting term

a hook and lateral is a football play

I think a hook and lateral could be routinely put into a team's playbook with no issues. There is risk in an extra pitch and catch of course but it would be worth it.

How 'bout the old "hide Trindon Holliday behind a large lineman" trick. That gets them every time.

Yeah, but I'm more asking if you were going to regularly deploy a trick play, which one would it be?

In general, trick plays are used less because they do have more risk. Flea flicker and reverse are probably the two safest, but both of them involve laterals behind the LOS.

I saw the NY Giants just this pass Monday Night run a successful flea flicker for 1 yard loss. True story.

The HBO show about Nick Saban and Bill Belichick shows a play (they both run) where they have six receivers/TE's, one is ineligible and the D can only account for 5.

The ineligible guy lines up in the slot with a CB covering him then back peddles at the snap leaving one of the others uncovered.

Almost seemed on the verge of cheating
