Goodell and the NFL mafia must have got to the judge about the Sunday NFL ticket trial

The judge who presided over the class-action lawsuit filed by "Sunday Ticket" subscribers against the NFL said the jury did not follow his instructions in determining damages.
U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez made the remark as he heard the NFL's post-trial motion asking that he rule for the league if he finds the plaintiffs did not prove their case.
Gutierrez could also order a new trial because the eight-person jury came up with its own calculations for damages.
The federal jury on June 27 awarded $4.7 billion in damages to residential and commercial subscribers after it ruled the NFL violated antitrust laws in distributing out-of-market Sunday afternoon games on a premium subscription service.
Because damages can be tripled under federal antitrust laws, the NFL could end up being liable for $14,121,779,833.92.

I knew something like this would happen. They are going to get this verdict thrown out. What is also amazing is how much the NFL has told the mainstream media to back off this story. We basically have a state run controlled media now. The fix is in in some way or form.

I am amazed that a ln organization that can pay 1 qb 55 million a year is non profit.

And that’s still less than Roger Goodell is paid

So he could order a new trial that could make the NFL pay more than $4.7B? How does that mean the NFL “got” to him?

As an NFL fan, why would I want the NFL to lose this judgement?

Because I need to be compensated for the trauma I went through haggling DirecTV to get Sunday Ticket at a massive discount. A couple of years I even got it for free after I threatened to switch to cable. I still have nightmares about it.

It’s amazing how a not for profit organization can have access to this type of problem.

NFL and the teams are entirely different entities

It's a double taxation issue more than anything else, and last I checked, they revoked their own non-profit status.

Almost 10 years ago. The boomers on this site are clueless but still will throw in their 2 cents like they know ANYTHING about what they are talking about.
Eta: I just checked and both posters that still thought NFL was tax exempt have multiple PT board posts in their first page of recent posts. What a shocker

Why would not having the contract with Directv, Fox, and other broadcast networks guarantee that the NFL would offer out of market games to everyone and also at cheaper prices?
Also why stop at 2015 when this was going on long before? I know they renewed but not sure how it was different from prior contract.
At least early on the DirecTV exclusivity promoted competition with the cable companies.

Seems jury was a little lazy. Also verdict has been overturned.

quote:
Instead, the jury used the 2021 list price of $293.96 and subtracted $102.74, the average price actually paid by residential "Sunday Ticket" subscribers. The jury then used $191.26, which it considered as the "overcharge," and multiplied that by the number of subscribers to come up with the damages amount.
Gutierrez said the jury did not follow his instructions and "instead relied on inputs not tied to the record to create its own 'overcharge.'"

U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez ruled that the testimony of two witnesses for the subscribers had flawed methodologies and should have been excluded.
