What do you all think of him? If he wasn’t going to retire within the next 3 seasons, would you trade your team’s coach for him? Why or why not?

He is a good coach and seemingly good guy. He is from around where I am from and people still speak highly of him. He had success at UNI, was mediocre at Iowa State and found a good landing spot at Creighton taking over for Dana Altman.

The funny thing is that if stayed at ISU he openly admitted that he didn't offer his son Doug a scholarship to ISU because he didn't think he was good enough to play in the Big 12. His son was going to go to UNI but ended up going to Creighton when he got the job the same year his don graduated. Doug became a consensus All-American, 1st round draft pick and played 10+ years in the NBA... not to shabby, Doug was also a HS teammate of Harrison Barnes at Ames HS.

He’s definitely a classy coach. It’ll be said when Creighton loses it’s status as cleanest team when Huss takes over.

McDermott will never be talked about as one of the best coaches around due to not winning the awards, but he is a great coach and a Creighton legend. He took a solid program from the Missouri Valley and guided them to a yearly contender in the Big East. Always adjusted his coaching style to the talent on the team.

I was thrilled to have Huss come back, but it’s also bittersweet knowing that means Mac’s last year will be next year or the following season.
