This +1000. I play in a city league and we have fun, but there's always a healthy minority of shitty ex-high school jocks that have added 40 pounds of fat over the last decade but think they are professional athletes. These assholes talk shite, try to start fights and act like they are starting for the Red Sox. If you want to be a bad arse, join a tackle football league.

When I lived in Arizona, we played against teams that actually smuggled in illegal bats from Mexico, then repainted/restickered them to look legit. This would let the 5' 6", 140 lb shortstop hit home runs.

You sound like a little bitch who has no concept of why they play. It's not to be ultra-competative you stupid frick.

Now go put on a blindfold and play in some traffic. Make the world a better place.

I'm not reading this whole thread but it sounds like the OP got embarrassed on the diamond and is now trying to make fun of the ones who are good at softball

You find me an 18+ baseball league in my city (Baton Rouge) and I'd be the first in line, but since adult baseball leagues are rare at best, I'll stick to slow pitch softball. Fast pitch actually requires this thing called practice to be able to pitch like that (and to do it well), so I think most would pass on fast pitch.

Physically impossible. As impressive as a "U.S. Army mobile radar" sounds, it was not designed to track softball speeds. Trust me, the human body is incapable of throwing a ball 126 mph. A baseball has less drag and thus is more aerodynamic than a softball. At present, elite women softball players throw in the low 70s and men in mid-90s. I'm sure your uncle/grandfather/whatever had a great arm and maybe he topped 101-103 mph, but no way did he clock 126. Sorry, man. Hell, the hockey slap shot world record is around 108 mph, and that's getting to use a stick to generate the force.

I have a feeling it was equal to 126 from a major league mound.

My buddies and I are about to start playing in a summer league. We are going to be the ones trash talking and taking it way too serious.

As long as you are not playing at St. Patricks Park in NOLA, then good luck with that.

Meh. If you want to drink beer with your buddies, at least play a real sport.

ETA: The ultra-defensive softball players are fricking hilarious.

Is perfectly ok, as long as you do it with a beer in on hand.

It’s an easy way to get together with all of your buddies who have wives, kids, and jobs. You have a built in excuse to drink beer for a few hours and then go back home. If you take the game at all seriously, someone should hit you in the head with a bat. But the great thing about softball is it lets the athletic and unathletic play on the same team and hang out. There’s a reason it’s the favored of game of family reunions and picnics.

So why not just play cabbage ball? I mean, if you're going to admit to being a non-athlete, just go all out.

Caveat: I'm not bashing the guys who are purely recreational with it and who just go out to have a good time, have some beers, etc. I'm bashing the fools who are serious about their slow pitch softball, like the guys who create silly rules like "you can't hit up the middle".

Considering girls don't even play slow pitch anymore, I think it's time for grown men who decide to play slow pitch needs to have their man card taken away immediately.

Just left a softball complex, 9 and 10 year girls were playing fast pitch, on the field right next to them, there were grown arse men playing slow pitch

If you gonna play, man up and fast pitch....or dare i say, just simply play baseball

I nominate this guy to be my pitcher and let the opposing team know that the middle's open.

Because we’re familiar with softball from years of playing it, going back to elementary school? Ease to form a league? I’m just saying, it’s a great rec sport. But I’m only arguing for it as a rec sport and an excuse to hang out. It’s just competitive enough. It’s enough like baseball you can pretend you’re playing a real sport… so long as it doesn’t make you spill any beer.
