Had the NFL kept 16 game schedule, we’d be watching playoff football but instead

There were teams sitting starters in the last week of 16 game schedule too. This happens when playoff spots are locked in, not because of a 17th game

Like someone else said they played backups with the 16 game schedule as well. I too prefer 16 but the extra game is not why we have back ups playing today

Think the nfl would benefit more from keeping the 18 week calendar but adding an extra bye to help promote recovery. So 16 games with 2 byes

They probably will, and then players will sit in game 18 instead of game 17
