USA Today ran an article on this. Here’s a list of salaries from the coaches whose team is in the final 16 for the top two classes. This is only 6A and 5A teams.

Jeff Hulme, Waco Midway, $111,415
Sean McAuliffe, Converse Judson, $111,288
Riley Dodge, Southlake Carroll, $97,284

Bradley Butler, Alvin Shadow Creek, $100,175
David Gilpin, Mission Memorial, $96,742
Lon Holbrook, Birdville, $92,646
5A Division 2

James Williams, Fort Bend Marshall, $102,061
Max Kattwinkel, Lubbock Cooper, $102,000
Steve Wood, Aledo, $102,000
Matt Bindel, Wichita Falls Rider, $97,026
This is ONLY the teams this far in the postseason. You can go to the database to see the rest...
$$$$$
A similar study in Alabama last year showed that the 3 highest salaries in the top classification (I assume of teams that went deep in the playoffs) were comparable.
Is the arms race in HS football out of control? Realistically, how many of these kids go to the next level?
We had a school in Corpus Christi go 0-10, and the coach makes over $100K.
Serious question: is this getting to be like college, where the dollar amounts are getting outrageous?

A fantastic coach.

I believe most have dual titles of Head Coach / Athletic Director. Their salaries are augmented by the AD title and responsibilities.

Well the coaches salaries are set no different than a principals or a teachers. They're approved by the school board during budget season.
This is one of the things that your property taxes go towards in Texas.

Y’all think that’s a lot of money? You should see what I’m paying in property taxes this year.

No,
You are looking at a state that understands how to consolidate resources versus the public education disaster that is Louisiana.
For instance, Austin Lake Travis would have the largest enrollment of any high school in the state of Louisiana. It would be like combining Denham Springs and Live Oak into one school and combining their head coach salaries into one single position.

If you know anything about the Tax Base in areas such as Southlake, Allen, Lake Travis etc etc This is peanuts.
Plus it costs about 100K a year to live comfortably in these areas.

Big sports bring in big dollars. High school football is the major religion of Texas. There are probably some FBS programs that don't have the average attendance of some Texas high schools.
So you are going to get some coaches making top dollar.
Texas teachers make about average money for teachers in America (California and New York throw the scale a bit out of whack) but the cost of living isn't that high throughout most of the state so they probably do quite well for themselves.
As long as the demand for football coaches is high in the state you're going to have salaries to match that demand.

Those salaries sound about right. Good pay but not outrageous. Demands a lot of time and also has a pressure component for many of the ultra competitive communities.

Something that will blow your minds... there is a high school football coach at a private school in Nashville, Ensworth high school. Their head football coach, who is also the AD ( who has since stepped down) made $598,000 in 2016. Google “Ricky Bowers salary Ensworth”

these salaries look fair to me. My guess is high school football at many (if not most) places in Texas would be profitable. A really good coach will pay for himself with the extra revenue they bring in. Not mention it’s 2018 and $100k salary isn’t what it used to be.

Yeah we’re in Ensworth’s league and our coach makes several hundred thousand and is provided w a house. Basically all the coaches are paid huge salaries in the large private school division in TN
