Prime Earl Campbell would be just as good.

The main positions where a 70s player can't play today are O line and D line, because of the massive size differences.

When I first thought about your question I thought probably no different than when Campbell played 40-50 years ago but today the D lineman and defensive players in general are running 15-20 pounds heavier and they're just as fast as the 70's/80's players. With that said it's likely Campbell would have benefited greatly from the advancements in training, diet and medical care so he would probably still be pounding opposing defenses into submission.

I think he’d be a fullback and good in short yardage situations. But these defenses are too fast for the game of his era.

Whatever it would be wouldn't be at RB... someone mentioned Henry as a comp who obviously never seen Earl run...

He wouldn't be a running back. In today's game, coaches would make him gain 20 pounds and convert him to an edge pass rusher. Like Micah Parsons was an unbelievable running back in high school and they didn't even give him a chance to play the position after high school. They just made him into a full-time defensive player right away. That's what Earl Campbell would be in today's game. Another Micah Parsons.

Goal line back. His skill set is not for current NFL.

Whichever coach convinced Henry to be a RB over a DE owes him millions, same with whatever coach convinced LF to be a RB over a LB.. Earl would be an edge rusher today

He would not fit well. He could be derrick henry for a year or two but didn't have the speed or hands to play in the NFL flag rules of today. He was a badass. The game isn't made for the likes of the Tyler Rose anymore.

Barry Sanders comes to mind first, who could be an all pro today due to his style and speed.

Earl is from a bygone, battering ram era but man what a beast. That highlight is 100% Earl.
