Offensive player was called for a hold away from the ball while the defensive team was in the bonus. The official did not signal for a player control foul.

After deliberation for a minute or so, it was ruled that there would not be a free throw attempt. I was always under the impression that a foul by the offensive team made by a player not in possession of the ball warranted free throws when the defense was in a bonus situation.

Have there been any recent rule changes in this area?

Bonus free throws are not awarded for any team control fouls (a foul by a player on the team controlling the ball).

The referees got the call correct.

To my knowledge, the only exception to this rule at any level is at the college level where bonus free throws can be awarded to a defensive player who draws a charge if it comes after the shot leaves the shooter's hand, although that is technically classified as a loose ball foul.

Yea, I just found it...for some reason I'd never heard "team control" foul used.
