Iowa produces tough baws. Them six year olds can lift a bale of hay above their heads.

State B is teeny tiny and has 50 HS seniors. 3 are 5* caliber and 5 are 4* caliber. 10 of them are 3* and the rest are whatever.

This isn’t a condemnation of per capita, it shows that a minimum sample size is necessary. You are using a ridiculously small example to make a point but instead are missing the point

Louisiana is typically top 7-10 in whatever metric you want to use. NFL players, top 300 prospects D1 players despite having a population smaller than Houston. Per capita just gives perspective.

when it comes to HS recruiting (which is when this topic is most frequently brought up) sample size is irrelevnat. All that matters is the amount of kids of a certain caliber.

who is disagreeing with that? I have never once said that LA sucks for talent. Nothing even remotely close to that. My entire point is simply that when it comes to HS recruiting, for pretty much forever it's bene a big 3 of CA/TX/FL, and starting somewhere in the early-mid 2000s GA starting standing along side them (mostly due to the influx of non-southerners movin to metro atlanta, but that's another tpoic alltogether). Those are the big 4 of HS recruiting states, then everyone else. But many people (not you specificcally so I'm not singling you out) try to also lump Louisiana in with those 4, sipmly based on "per capita" which isn't really accurate.

Sure, it gives persepctive that LA does a lot with less (population) and pucnhes above its weight class as a recruiting state. It does NOT, however, mean LA is one of the 3 or 4 best states for HS recruits.

only because they’re bigger states and not because they’re actually better

That’s why we use per capita.

Well...yes that's a massive part of it. Common sense would tell us bigger states = shitton of people = more kids playing HS football = more chances to have highly rated kids.

I mean Montana is enormous but doesn't have shite. FL/TX/CA/GA do have a ton of kids but let's not act like they don't also have the upper echelon talent that you'd exepct to go with it.

Right...to frame the discussion to make LA look better.

Who cares about the chances to have highly rated kids… how many do you actually have

Gee no shite, look where we’re from… it isn’t like LSU has been the second best program of the last 25 years with keeping a wall around Louisiana

With the best and the third best program of the last 25 years, as well as everyone else relevant, coming in to get our kids too

LSU and OSU probably have the best recruiting advantages in the US. Both states produce a lot of talent and both states have only one Power 5 program until Cincinnati went to the watered down Big 12.

You could make a strong argument that LSU underachieved until Saban got there.

Absolutely!! Under rated Iowa has had a Top tier Defense for a while

And they have become the Tight End U.! 3 of the Top 5 currently in the NFL.

Strictly referring to age and sex and both of those eliminate a huge portion of the population in any "per capita" discussion about HS or CFB players

Its still crazy that they had 2 TEs drafted in the first round in 2019.

Sample size always matters. If a guy hits 2 HR in the opener he’s on pace to hit 324 HR, that’s obviously not going to happen. The example you gave was too small to having any significance even per capita.

Given your other comments perhaps are taking it too personally. I’ve never heard anyone argue Louisiana is the best state overall, only on a per capita basis. Which i agree is essentially meaningless. A small state will always have boom bust years.

LSU cannot compete at the highest level with just Louisiana players. Rational LSU fans have always know this, we need a couple of players for Texas, Florida, Georgia. But the best LSU teams have always started with the top Louisiana players in exceptional classes that come around every few years vs every year in a state like Georgia
