Is there a reason home teams in the NBA don’t wear white jerseys at home anymore?

Very silly pet peeve of mine but I hate when road teams wear white and I think we’ve only had one playoff game of the last 13 when a home team rocked their white jerseys on their court (Cavs game 5 Monday)

Since Monday:
MEM vs LAL Game 4 - Grizzlies wore white on the road
ATL vs BOS Game 5 - Hawks wore white on the road
LAC vs PHX Game 5 - Clippers wore white on the road
MIA vs MIL Game 5 - Heat wore white on the road
GS vs SAC Game 5 - Warriors wore white on the road
SAC vs GS Game 6 - Kings wore white on the road
MEM vs LAL Game 6 - Grizzlies wore white on the road
PHX vs DEN Game 1 - Suns wore white on the road

Out of control

Pretty soon it’ll be black at home, rainbow on the road. Maybe CCP red if LeBron has anything to say about it.

Very. A home team wearing a white jersey seems to be a classic look in both the NBA and college basketball. The fact it’s happened only twice in the last 15 NBA playoff games seems crazy.

Teams no longer have home and away jerseys

They have a set of 4 that they cycle throughout the year. Not the biggest fan of it either but is what it is

Not a fan of teams wearing alternates in the playoffs but ever since Nike has taken over the apparel deal they’ve eliminated “Home” and “Away” uniforms

People sit there and actually say or think “well damn, shouldn’t the home team be wearing white?”

I always thought it made sense for the home team to wear white in any sport. That way the home crowd gets to see different colored jerseys every week from the visitors. If the visiting teams wear white, the home crowd only gets to see white and the color of the home team. Of course, with tv that is not as big of a factor.

At every other level, it’s mandated in the rules

The NBA got rid of the home lighter color rules and road darks when Nike took over. I don’t like it either.

The Miami Heat and Lakers appear to be the only teams left that wear their traditional home uniforms while playing at home.

The Celtics have been wearing this garbage alternate dark green one.

Traditionally, the home team wears colors. Gil Brandt was the first to have the home team Cowboys wear white so the home fans could see the colors of other teams

I got no problem with what color they wear at home or the road.

I do have a problem with every team having 4 unis that they all wear about the same amount, especially when some of those extra unis have vastly different colors than the team.

When it’s been that way for practically your whole life, yes.

First thing OP said is that it’s a silly pet peeve. It’s becoming pretty trendy to mock anything traditional as an “old man take”. Fire away.

NHL also switched in the last decade. Home teams wear colors now.

I do prefer that the NHL go back to white at home. But at least colored pants are worn with white jerseys 99% of the time. I haven't noticed any alternate jerseys worn during the playoffs.

Knicks do the honorable thing and wear white on their court

And then for the 3rd straight time in the series, the Kings opt out of wearing white on their own court. And this is while having a whiteout game

I've always thought the opposite. White uniforms by and large are plain and boring. Uniforms with more color to them catch the eye easier. Of course I am a much bigger NHL fan than I am NBA fan but what would you rather see if you are a fan of your team at a home game, the St. Louis Blues in their classic blue uniforms or the St. Louis Blues in their boring white uniforms. The Detroit Red Wings in their classic red uniforms or the Detroit Red Wings in the same type of white uniform every other team in the league has? Same with the Philadelphia Flyers, the L.A. Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, etc. etc. Why subject your season ticket holders and your home town fans to boring white uniforms 41 times a year?
