He's played in 16 games so far and has 73 plate appearances, one sacrifice fly and zero walks. 5 home runs and 7 multi-base hits. Seems almost impossible in today's day and age to make it this deep into the season without walking. His OPS+ is 149 so he's not exactly struggling. I don't watch many Brewers games so I'm not overly familiar with him, I guess the young man is just in straight up attack mode at the plate

I'm not understanding how this works. Maybe I'm dumb. Does this only work if he doesn't have walks or HBP?

Sacrifice fly doesn’t hurt your batting averages but does reduce your on base percentage

Would fielders choice raise your obp but ding your BA, right?

Eta. Just looked it up. Now I understand the sacrifice explanation. Cool stat. Never heard of this situation before

Nope, a fielder's choice is the same as an out for OBP purposes.

OBP = (Hits + Walks + Hit by Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit by Pitch + Sacrifice Flies)

Interestingly enough, a successful sacrifice bunt is not used in the OBP calculation.
