Jeremy Lin Perspective - The 05-06 Mater Dei High School Basketball Roster

By now, it's wide-spread knowledge that Jeremy Lin's Palo Alto High School basketball team upset a "storied" Mater Dei team for the California basketball title in 2006. This article provides some interesting perspective about the type of upset it was:

One interesting thing the article mentions is that Palo Alto High didn't have a single player recruited for D-1 ball (with the exception of Lin and Harvard). So, out of curiosity, I looked up the top ten players from Mater Dei's 05-06 roster. I suspected that a couple of them might have received scholarship offers to D-1 programs, and it would add a little to the Jeremy Lin story.
I didn't expect that eight of them have ended up on major D-1 rosters:
Taylor King - Duke / Villanova
Alex Jacobson - Arizona
Kamyron Brown - Oregon / Nebraska
David Wear - UNC / UCLA
Travis Wear - UNC / UCLA
Blake Arnet - UCLA
Andy Brown - Stanford
Jamaal Trice - Connecticut
It should be noted that the Wear twins were freshmen at the time, and they didn't play in the championship game. Still, it seems like the Palo Alto victory was a modern-day Hoosiers story. And, of course, it's quite strange that scouts completely ignored a player who scored 17 points against a loaded team full of D-1 prospects.

Man crazy to think about how Taylor King and Lin's paths have diverged

He was the big time prospect who originally committed to UCLA in 8th grade right?

Mater Dei is well known for the athletes.

to put things bluntly, this puts absolutely nothing in perspective.
ETA: ok i guess it kinda puts the recruiting process into perspective.
he was better in high school than all those guys, better in college, and now better in the pros. color me shocked

Your perspective that this puts absolutely nothing in perspective then admitting it does in fact put the recruiting process into perspective is an interesting perspective.
From my perspective.

yep. Left Duke after a year, started off strong at Villanova only to burn out there too, decided to transfer to USC, never attended USC, last seen playing for NAIA Concordia. Kid is clearly a head case
