I have talked to some old heads in Summerfield about this in the past. While not saying it is ok or something that should get a pass as the Mailman was completely out of the lives of his two youngest children until they were basically adults. The people there talking about two teenagers even with one being on his way into his twenties and her being a young teenager wasn't well outside the norm for that area, then or even now. That's why the girl, and her family didn't push for charges. I still think the dude is POS for how he treated his two oldest for much of their lives. At the same time if you've ever been in any of these slower country towns, some of their ways of life are just different. I'll pass on judging how he got to be a father of two while still in college and move to just despising him for being a deadbeat while he was out being an NBA superstar.

A 19 year old who actively decides to engage in romantic/sexual interest with a 13 year old is fricked up, and should be forced to serve time in jail.

I hate to say it but it's more common than you think. I used to work at a school in a small town like that and many of the teenage girls were pursued by grown men and didn't think anything of it. The walls in the office were literally covered with photos of sex offenders.

All star game was in Utah so he was part of the weekend. Plus lebron breaking all time scoring record, which he is 3rd on the list now.

My great grandmother got married at 13 to a 30 year old man. Small town Louisiana in the early 1900's. However if Malone did this 20 years later he never makes it to the NBA, he would be in jail.
The girls mother even said that they didn't pursue charges because then Malone wouldn't be able to give money to the family... everyone involved is a shitbag.

I never said it was ok. I was pointing out that these villages (that's what they are) with 200 people are different than even small towns with 600-3k people. I'm not saying it is right, nor am I saying it isn't disgusting. The culture today and even more-so 40+ years ago in these towns is closer to the dust bowl where those things were the norm than they are the 21st century.
