All this talk about JJ Watt and Mack and best seasons for a defensive player...
Think about this...
In 1980 Lester Hayes intercepted 18 passes and had another 5 INTs taken away because of penalties.
His total of 18 is 5 more than anyone else since 1960.
He had an INT in every single playoff game, including the Super Bowl.
He averaged one INT per game for the entire season!
Lester won NFL Defensive player of the year award...only Mel Blount, Rod Woodson, Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson won it as Cornerbacks.
Lester Hayes in 1980 had the best season of any defensive player in history.
He covered "HOFer" (ahem) Art Monk in the Super Bowl - Art Monk had ONE reception the entire game.

Hayes and Mike Haynes were one of the GOAT CB tandems though.
the Raiders had a good front four but those corners were relentless.

They were voted the greatest CB tandem of all-time.
Haynes might have been the perfect corner.
But "the judge" was a character and really an underrated player as time goes by because of the stick-um issue.
Yeah, he bathed himself in stick-um, but it was legal and everyone used it and it was no better than the tacky gloves Jerry Rice wore.
But an INT per game! What an amazing season. He deserves more HOF consideration from the veterans committee.
