Masters Tickets

My son is a college athlete at a small school in a very niche sport. He has been successful competing and is a sought out certified instructor. He had an older man approach him today after he was done practicing and offer 2 full passes to the Masters in exchange for four one hour lessons. This is a man he is acquainted with and who seems trustworthy. The man has had the grandfathered in passes since the 70's.
I heard they cracked down on scalpers this year and ended up turning a bunch of people around at the gate. It would suck bigly to drive 6 hours to Augusta and have a place rented to stay and then just get turned around and have to drive back home.
He was so excited today when he called to tell me he was going to "take me to the Masters". Does anyone have knowledge of how the transferring of tickets takes place, or if it is even allowed? My son is a mature kid, and a generally good judge of character. He thinks the older gentleman is legit. I just don't know how the process for getting in works and don't want to get a surprise at the gate.

Unless things have changed somewhat recently.. the badges while attached to an account aren’t attached to a person. There are brokers selling packages every year and ive personally used badges from a few account holders, none I even knew..

4 hrs of golf seems worth the “risk”. Especially for someone he knows.
Hope it works out

For 2028. He already has them promised to others the next two years. Apparently he hasn't been able to attend himself in quite a few years.

Seems weird and random, but I would still take the chance. Offering tickets to an event 3 years from now in exchange for a few hours of lessons presently just seems off.

I can see that, but generally the people involved in this sport are down to earth, high character folks. We have travelled all over the country with him competing, and don't meet very many people that are shady. He donates free lessons to kids all the time, so him getting taken advantage of really isn't what I'm concerned about. He will enjoy giving the lessons regardless. I just don't want to rent a hotel or Airbnb and not get in the gate. Lol.

The guy can’t just offer him money? Tickets to an event three years away seems like a hassle to keep up with

It’s a groomer. Tell your son to steer clear.

My son would rather have the tickets than money. The 2028 thing doesn't bother us either. He will have his hands full the next two Spring semesters anyway in grad school. Unless the guy dies or becomes homebound, my son will likely see him weekly. And I can assure you he isn't going to forget about it!

I’m more curious what your son does? Niche sport at a small private school? Fencing? Horseback?

Your son turns tricks for old men at the country club. For promises that will likely go unfulfilled with next years jv class.
Sorry you had to find out like this

They confiscated 100s of badges this year. They allowed the people in with a complimentary 1 day pass but took the badge. My group rents a house every year and it comes with 8 badges for daily entry. The man and wife who rent the house to us each have 4 badges that were passed down to them when the grandfather clause was still a thing.
Augusta National has a system now that pings and tracks badges patterns of movements. Starting around Wednesday this year, they were pulling people aside at the entry gates and questioning the origin of the badges. They were asking whose name the badges were in and if you didn’t know who the original patron was, they were taking the badges. Our daily client groups were briefed to say they were friends of the actual badge holders. We had a script. One dude didn’t listen and said he was there as a guest of our company. His badge was confiscated and he was allowed entry with a complimentary pass.
The fact is that Augusta National is going to cash in on the premium secondary market instead of allowing all of the brokers to pocket the insane markup. They have partnered with one single premium broker who will have exclusivity in premium sales. All confiscated badges do not go back into the waiting list lottery. They are being turned over to this exclusive broker who will sell on behalf of ANGC while keeping a percentage.

My wife and I lucked out last year with the lottery.
It took me all of ten seconds to decide to sell them.

hiya buddy! I haven't reached out in a while but hope you're doing well. Have I told you that I love golf? I do! Crazy I know. Just thought you might want to know. Let's get together at the next tailgate, beer is on me!

You heard wrong. He will go straight in and do not pass on these. I go every year and sell some so piece of cake.
