That McLaren Honda that Senna won the championship in has to be one of the best looking F1 cars ever made.

How much must that collection be worth?

The guy must have a veritable metric shite-ton of cash…

Posting so I can remember to watch later. When he did the Beyond the Grid podcast about a year ago I remember them going over his collection and being impressed. Will certainly check this out.

That’s a collection… And I’d imagine he has quite a few modern McClarens in his stable.

Where in the F did he get the money for that collection? His net worth is only estimated at 100m pounds.

I can’t see that collection of cars being less than 75-100m dollars.

I thought Jay Leno had a collection and he is worth an estimated 450 million dollars.

He's still got some of that Wheel of Fortune money laying around. I did a double take when she mentioned him on that show, I had never heard that before.

Maybe most of them are rolling chassis and not functional cars still. While still pricey, his connections probably opened him up to buying them far below a public auction price.

He said in the video that every one of them still runs.

Oh wow, that is pretty impressive then. The Formula cars with working engines are pretty uncommon

I kept thinking, "bitch get your hands off the cars, you're getting fingerprints all over them. Now someone's going to have to go back and clean up the prints!"

Yup. Said the only thing that keeps him from driving them all is time and the capability to actually fit inside some cars

In the 1995 my brother and I went to the Monterey Historic races when the featured marque was Lotus. A Japanese guy brought an '85 97T and '86 98T F1 Lotus, both had been raced by Senna. The '86 chassis was a race winner, although I can't remember if the '85 was. Senna won two races in each of the '85 and '86 seasons.

The owner of the cars let my brother sit in the 98T. My brother is about 5'7" and was probably about 160 lbs at the time. He could barely fit in the car, it was extremely cramped. The Senna web site said that he was 5'9" and 154 lbs, so a little slimmer, but it must have been really tight for him as well. I'm surprised Zak could fit in any F1 car—he looks way too heavy.

Here's Martin Brundle (listed as 5'7") driving a Senna Lotus 98T (from the scary turbo era, >1,000 hp in qualy trim!). It might be the same chassis that the Japanese guy owned in the 90s:

I long assumed that F1 drivers were small, like jockeys, but there are actually four drivers on the grid this year that are 6'+

I'm surprised that they fit in the cars. Then again, the modern F1 car is much longer (as long as a Chevy Suburban) than they were in Senna's day.

Now that there is a minimum weight it has allowed some of those larger drivers to be physically fit with the smaller ones rather than having to be damn near anemic for weight reasons.

Maybe it was Bottas that talked about losing consciousness because of the weight he had to maintain. The drivers looked horrible 5 years ago trying to make weight.
