More than 700 players hit the portal on opening day
Last year 291 players entered on Day 1
And 16 teams are still playing

Contracts can't get here soon enough

Guys that don’t play want to find somewhere to play. Shocking development.
In other news, I didn’t see many threads about all those coaches not fulfilling their contracts and leaving their players for a raise. Hmmmmm

NIL and transfer portal need guard rails bad.
Also, contracts WITH performance incentives. Play well, make bonuses, play poorly, lose pay.

Just reinstate the old transfer rules. With one minor change.
First transfer, sit a year without losing eligibility.
Second transfer, loss of a year of eligibility, but able to play immediately.
Zero transfer waivers.
Grad transfer, immediately eligible.

How would you enforce this?

Should coaches sit a year too when they transfer?
Also if a coach leaves should a player be able to transfer penalty free?

I can’t believe people still watch this stuff.

Coaches have contracts that enable schools to be compensated when their coach is poached. Applying the same guardrails to athletes would go a long way in fixing this problem.

They have contracts which include penalties based on which party initiates the non-completion. People need to stop using "coaches can do it" as part of their justification on why this is okay. It's lazy and intellectually dishonest.

Exactly. Fix the structure, don’t penalize the player
…. Then just get boosters to play the players buyout

I have a few questions.
1) is this happening in the random lesser sports that no one cares about? In my experience when I was in college, some of those people were actually serious students.
2) How dramatic of an effect is this gonna happen on graduation rates? I realize a lot of basketball players don’t care about graduating, but it seems to make the moniker of student athlete even more of a farce.

You commit to a school, not a coach.
When was the last time you saw a commitment video where the player committed to a coach?

The portal, as it is, is far from perfect. But it’s nowhere near intellectually dishonest when you take in the context of the people against the portals argument. They still shill for “scholarships are compensation” which is insane.
I’m fine discussing how the portal and NIL need to be tweaked, and they both do

lol! Good troll. The Math department sends out professors looking for the best power forward to play on the team?

You’re right, players were committing solely to the university of Alabama and nick saban had nothing to do with it

Why would the portal open in the middle of the tournament
