It's a nice gesture. The poster who said folks are overthinking it is correct. It could something as simple as his Mom wanted a new car, he knew that, he wanted to pay his Mom back for all shes' done for him, he now has or is guaranteed more money than his Mom/Dad ever had, he buys her that new car she wanted. Is that really weird?
