Many many decades ago running backs had rings on their belt for this purpose.

I believe all that was outlawed by rule a long time ago.

Would have been fun to see though.

My mom talks about her high school days on the westbank in the late 50s/early 60s. Apparently there was a guy called Mouse Battaglia that was like 115 lbs that the team would just toss over the line for every first and TD.
