I challenge you to find a lineup today that can match this one. (Maybe Philly or NYY?)

here was their lineup in game 7 of the WS
1. Omar Vizquel----ss
2. Tony Fernandez--2b
3. Manny Ramirez---rf
4. David Justice---lf
5. Matt Williams---3b
6. Sandy Alomar----c
7. Jim Thome-------1b
8. Marquis Grissom-cf

DH/PH- Brian Giles, Kevin Seitzer, Julio Franco, Bip Roberts.

The pitching was great, but still formidable:

Jaret Wright---really good arm in his younger days
Charles Nagy
Chad Ogea
Orel Hershiser
Bartolo Colon----Really good in his younger days

How did this team not win 90 games?

Beast.

Give me the 1996 lineup with Kenny Lofton, Carlos Baerga and Albert Belle though.

Those pitchers were good enough to win 90 games.

Better question is:

If the Indians had ONE superstar ace from 95-97, would they have won only 1 or 2 WS?

The 2007 pitching staff with the 1996 hitting would have been the best team in the history of baseball. Well, maybe not, I don't know enough about baseball, but it would have been amazing.

Naggy, their ace, went 15-11 with a 4.28 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP

Oral Hershiser: 14-6 4.47 ERA 1.37 WHIP
Chad Ogea: 8-9 4.49 ERA 1.47 WHIP
Bartolo Colon: 4-7 5.65 ERA 1.61 WHIP
Jaret Wright: 8-3 4.38 ERA 1.28 WHIP

Yeah, it was pitching

This team had the best 1-9 lineup in baseball history.

Well played, Rouge. And does anyone actually underrate the 97 Indians' lineup? Most people agree it was awesome.

The 95 team scared the shite out of me more. Went 100-44 in a shortened season. Belle was a beast with 50 HRs. Total of 5 starters with 20+ HRs. As a Braves fan, I thought they were going to plow through the playoffs & win the WS that year. Just proves the old thought of good pitching beats good hitting.

today as in currently?

there are a couple lineups in history just as good or better than the 97 indians.

I also dont know what you mean by underrated. I dont see how anyone underrates that lineup.

2001 Mariners lineup, to me, is more "underrated" because they had lost Arod, their best player was a "rookie" and prob only have 1 HOFer on that team.

97 Indians have 3 possible HOF bats in the lineup

Total team (including pitchign) maybe, but definitely not offensive fire power. Not even close.

Just our fricking luck. We were hot and could have finished with the best record ever.

yea but they didnt quite come out of nowhere like the 2001 team did. Martinez and Griffey were proven studs, and Arod had just had a ridiculous season as well.

Underrated was what the OP was reffering to

The 99 Rangers Offense was loaded. 6 guys with 20 + HRs. 3 with 35 or more.

Their SP was terrible though.

I went to my share of mid-90's Indians games. They were as fun to watch as they were talented.

One memory. Indians vs. Tigers. Cecil Fielder comes up to the plate and the Indians go to the pen and bring in Eric Plunk. He throws one pitch, it hits Fielder in ribs (I was six rows behind home, it sounded like Rocky punching a side of beef), Fielder trots down to first, and the Indians went back to the pen for someone new. Good ol' Plunker with the one pitch outing. Good stuff.

I miss Jacobs/Progressive Field
