He's still making a huge difference in the paint. I noticed multiple times during the game that lakers looked wide open for easy layups but Gobert was around and they bailed out and passed to the perimeter.
There were multiple instances of Reeves\Luka cooking him a bit on the perimeter but those switches didn't occur everytime.

that's basketball in 2025, at all levels, regardless of who is protecting the paint.
This happens every year with Gobert in the playoffs. It's ridiculous to pay a 5 with his limitations as much as he gets.

This is what bothers me about these new guys. As long as he has been in the league. And not just a bench player, but a full time starter, he has not developed any kind of offensive game. I mean none at all. Not a decent 10' jump shot, not a back to the basket game. Hell he's not that good in PnR. What the flip does this clown do every off-season? Just practice blocking shots?

This is so weak. Stopping a game for that? So soft

Watching Orlando try and shoot 3's is just sad. How do you a construct a team in the modern NBA where literally none of them can hit an open 3 with any consistency?

These refs are horrible. They calling anything and everything against the Magic.

There are alot of ideas on how to improve the game but unless you get the refs to start calling it properly the other fixes are irrelevant.

The NBA guaranteed they'd be tightening up the officiating prior to the start of the season, and to their credit, they were a lot more physical with fewer fouls called.
Yeah, that lasted like week. And now it's the playoffs, where the officials are supposed to largely stay the frick out of it unless something is absolutely egregious or so clear and obvious they have to call it.
Nope. Can't tell any difference between regular-season and post-season reffing for the most part so far.

Problem is they let obvious and excess non basketball contact go then they selectively call it or call touch fouls. Or god forbid someone use a drop step, back someone down or make a strong shoulder turn. Just enforce the letter of the law and quit trying to give it a playground flavor. You can be plenty physical without all the hand fighting, obvious grabbing and free hand fouls.

I don’t love that call on Banchero. He played great defense. The bump was minimal and only happened because he was quicker than the ball handler.

Exactly, when you’re in position you’re allowed to bump. Not slap or hit on the arm but they’re essentially running into you. Thats supposed to be a no call

It’s like the league doesn’t know the difference between physical play and fouling. Using your body and strength to push people around or hold position is physicality. Letting them grab, slap and foul is fouling. What I see a lot of is letting the latter slide and calling the former which is backwards and imo why you see more hits to the head and ugly, flagrant plays.

The eastern conference is still arse

No but you’re gonna get more collisions like that because of how they call games now. They’ve tried to inject physicality back into the game but there’s too much h hand fighting allowed and not enough pushing and shoving allowed. You’re not clearing space by grabbing and pulling on each other. You’re not rooting guys out.

If anyone is curious how OKC got so good so fast - this is the playoff shot that started a domino effect that resulted in today’s team you see on floor. One of the best and fastest turnarounds ever. Will mean nothing if they don’t go all the way.
