It’s so arbitrary and happens every single play and then it’s an automatic first down

And so often it has absolutely nothing to do with the play

Same with defensive holding. Same with pass interference. It’s all a joke.

A player you hate must have just benefitted from an illegal contact flag

But they won’t just like they won’t call the false starts that happen all the time now

And penalties away from the play. What’s the point of ruining a game by calling holding 40 yards from the action.

Why is lowering the helmet/targeting never called on the offense… when announcers and coaches literally brag about a player “lowering their head” on a run?

And why are the rules about what is reviewable so arbitrary?

These are the sneaky little penalties that allow the refs to manipulate the games. No way the NFL is changing it.

I agree or at least change offensive holding to the same penalty of 5 yards and loss of down. The offense shouldn’t get to replay the down when they potentially eliminated a big play by the defense.

This is the rule change that’s led to all the anti contact rule changes. Allowing players to release and run freely in an area where contact used to be allowed is what led to the high impact, violent hits that in turn led to the powder puff rules. But now they’ll never pull back and this stupid rule change has caused most of it.

illegal contact and the QB getting touched on the helmet being a 15 yard roughing the passer are the two most annoying penalties in the NFL in terms of how big the call is for how little actual contact or penalty occurs for the yardage

- do away with illegal contact completely, you already have holding and PI

-QBs can be touched on the helmet with an open hand, it’s why they are wearing helmets. a defense shouldn’t be penalized 15 yards because a lineup reaches up high to batt down a pass and a hand grazes a helmet. it needs to be actual forcible egregious contact
