Sources: Notre Dame is finalizing a deal to make Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry the school’s next head coach

Pretty solid hire replacing a good coach in Brey. Only 2 years of HC experience

Somebody help me out with this. I’ve seen Shrewsberry’s name pop up the last few weeks for multiple jobs, and I don’t get it.

Why is he a hot commodity it college basketball coaching searches?

Penn st has a pretty awful basketball history. He's got them competitive and in the tourney. He also has lots of ties to the state of Indiana.

For one, Penn State is a crappy program, and they were middle of the pack in a tough league (arguably toughest in the country) and won a tournament game in year two. That was PSU’s first tournament win since 2001.

Penn State being such a massive university with unlimited resources… Why didn’t they open the checkbook to keep the best basketball coach they’ve had in decades?

Rothstein said they counteroffered. ND is a better job and with UCLA and USC coming into the Big Ten even a good Penn St. team would be struggling like hell to get to the top half of the conference.

He was also a long time assistant under brad stevens. Him and the Celtics players praise him every chance they get

He coached up PSU to be a fighting basketball team, has some ties to the state of Indiana and was an assistant under Brad Stevens.

This is a great hire by ND, ACC has been looking more and more competitive
