Rumor is that Ben Simmons is broke

Howard Eskin went on the radio and said that Simmons is now broke. Via 97.5 The Game:
"I was told by somebody very reliable he may be tapped out, broke," Eskin said on Tuesday's 94WIP Evening Show with Joe Giglio. "Cash flow broke. Because he's losing so much money, but he spent so much money. 17.5 million dollar home, remember he has to pay taxes too. 17.5 million dollar home. He's got two homes in the Philadelphia area, probably worth eight or nine million. He buys a new car every month, four or five hundred thousand. He just spends money like it's nothing because he thinks it never ends. And the person that told me, it's very reliable that he has got serious cash flow issues."

quote:. Remember Ben’s quote about his time at LSU?
Simmons is already looking to sell a home in New Jersey worth $5 million. He has made over $50 million in his career and still has three full years and $110 million remaining on his current deal after this season. It's pretty clear that Simmons issues are not only financial.
quote:Damn Ben
Carter: If I was as talented as you, would I see a point in that six or seven months of being there? Simmons: I think no. I think I would have learned a lot more being around professional athletes. Looking at it now, I don't really know what I learned, financially, or just being a person at LSU. I think I've learned a lot more this whole year in Philly, just being a pro, than I did at LSU.

Then he better show up for work and start getting paid again.

If he’s broke and still refusing to go to work then he deserves every bad thing that comes his way. For his sake I’ll hope he’s not THIS stupid.

Is he broke like JaMarcus was? Which means he isn't really broke

Doesn't the NBA and others require them to put some of their money away and with financial advisors?

Spending too much $$$ trying to impress the bitches and not only that, skanky Kardashian ones. That will do it.

LSU had a prominent basketball recruit in the 1990s who got on campus and set upon endearing himself to basically everyone in the community and embracing the whole experience 100% for his three year college stint. He was certainly a great dominant basketball player, but in large part because of the overall good will he engendered with people from the moment he stepped on the national scene as a college player (which he, of course, carried on into his professional career) he has become one of the wealthiest and well regarded FORMER professional athletes around.
25 years later they get another guy who’s supposed to be a generational type talent. He pouts his way through a single season, making sure it’s not a secret how angry he is that he HAS to do this to get into the NBA, endearing himself to basically NO ONE. Seemingly has the attitude instilled in him that he’s somehow owed his position once he’s done, makes sort of a splash in the league, but really doesn’t know how to endear himself to anyone around him. And 5 years later, here he is.
There’s something about choices, character, and karma to be said here somewhere.

Seems as believable as a Mark Stoops or Bill O'Brien is the next LSU coach post.

I could see him being homeless one day.
He seems to have a dangerous combo of lazy and not caring.

How in the hell do these pro athletes even go broke? After a nice house on a piece of land, a new truck, and a new boat, I think I’d be good, and wouldn’t spend too much of my money that I have

That's you and me...we have learned how to do things like budget, plan, and make choices. Believe it or not, a lot of these rich athletes don't bother doing any of that. Iverson went through more than 200 MM and Antoine Walker went through more than 100 MM.
Of course, he's not really "broke", but he will learn a lesson once he starts liquidating out of necessity.

Yeah these guys don’t be regular people broke at all… Tyson said he was broke in the sense he could only buy one Benz a month… Sprewell only had 30 million to split between 7 children… Iverson has access to a measly 60k month now but has $54 million coming in a couple years… these dudes don’t really be broke
