The Astros are also South Louisiana’s MLB team.

It’s the closest MLB team and one of their greatest players of all time in Bregman will have his number retired.

All that said, why don’t the Astros get more coverage in the boot? None of the sports media seems to cover them. It’s pretty much all LSU Saints and HS Sports.

Technically they’re in Houston but let’s be honest Houston to Slidell is one region on its own. It’s time for Louisiana to embrace the Stros

They use to have radio coverage in Louisiana or at least Baton Rouge back in the day and since the TV coverage in our market switched to Rangers over Astros I've watched more rangers games then I care to but we can watch Josh Smith now

Not even sure we will get the Rangers games this season as they left their regional network so we may not get hardly any coverage and with ESPN moving away from baseball next year we may not get much coverage at all unless you have MLB network

You also had a lot of cubs and braves fans when we got all of those games

MLB has successfully eroded all of their fanbases

You probably got a small pocket of Astros fans in SW Louisiana, everywhere else is Braves country with a sprinkling of Red Sox and Yanks. Bregman being on the Astros got people to pay attention to them more but watch how quickly it goes back to normal.

I blame MLB's ridiculous blackout rules.

In Tennessee I can watch every Astros game except 6 against the Braves and Reds.

In Baton Rouge I could only watch national broadcasts.

Nah… they might have the most fans but not enough to make them “our” team

I know exactly one Astros fan living in Louisiana, and his parents live in Houston. So no, they are indeed not South Louisiana's team. I know more Cardinals, Yankees, Braves, Dodgers, and Sox fans than Stros fans in Louisiana.

Are people really saying he’ll have his number retired in Houston?

Louisiana is weird because you don’t have an in state team so the state seems to be comprised mostly of Astros/Rangers/Braves fans then you have some Cubs fans because of broadcasting and then the fans of the Yankees

My In-laws are huge Astro fans they stream Fubo which shows all Astro games. So passionate Astro fans can watch all they want if they are willing to spend the money to get Fubo which is a competitive price with most streaming non-cable services.

shocked no stations carry the cardinals in La, Alabama has 2 radio stations that do, kentucky about 12ish, tenn has some, illinois, nearly as many as cubs have, Oklahoma, etc

Cardinals have season ticket holders from over 20ish states.

The Astros had a bigger following in South La when the Zephyrs were their AAA affiliate from 1997-2004. And you could watch every game on the Fox Sports Southwest. That also coincided with the Astros being really good in 2004 and 2005 and making postseason runs. The Astros were also in the NL so you have a closer connection to teams in the southeast.

What killed the Astros in Louisiana was the rebuild where they sucked arse for years, being unable to watch them anymore, and switching to the AL.

I became an Astros fan because their games were carried by WGSO back in the 70's. My brother and I used to listen to them all the time.
