The lack of stat keeping ESPN does for College baseball

What is the deal here? First off they bury the little info they do have then it’s just not interactive at all the way other college sports are.
For example each team doesn’t have their own page where you can quickly click on and see the schedule, stats and roster. You can only see each game breakdown which is ok but not enough if you ask me.

Probably because college baseball is merely a regional sport.

Outside of the south, college baseball just doesn’t draw the attention of other men’s sports. If you looked at college wrestling it would probably be the same.

Too many teams for a sport that isn’t really that popular nationwide. You need to get a D1 Baseball subscription

game breakdowns is actually new this year compared to years past on the ESPN app. So its progressing slowly

Pretty sure college baseball is not only popular in the southeast but also pretty popular in Texas and California which are the two most populous states.
All those random CA teams like Fullerton and Irvine have decent enrollments. Not to mention all of the Texas and Oklahoma schools.
There’s definitely a market. They just don’t want to acknowledge it because it’s not catering to minorities or women like they like.

My goodness. Get a grip. They don't cater to it because people don't watch it. Turn on some of the games with teams not in the SEC, including some schools you named. Not everything is political.

College baseball doesn't have mass appeal like the other sports. Outside of the south and maybe a bit in California, no one cares as much. Plus the very best players go pro out of HS so to the casual it seems like a second rate sport. I have a feeling that with NIL there will be more Cam Johnson situations where guys will pass on the draft to go to college and maybe then ESPN will take more of an interest.

Also, ESPN is the only reason you are able to watch almost any college baseball game you want. You should be happy that they at least care about it more that all of the other networks

This is still true, but it's growing. Depending on how much ESPN wants to invest in a growing market, it could be a good investment to add to their college baseball site presence.

They sure do push women’s college basketball though. Look I have nothing against it but the lack of respect for college baseball is aggravating.

Free enterprise at work. So very little demand for it so supply is nil. Not really hard to figure.

the same thing was said about college football before ESPN (and more specifically ESPN2) started really pushing it.
ESPN launching “the deuce” and televising a shite ton of college games nationally was considered a huge risk because the thought was that people outside of each region wouldn’t care about teams not in their area.
and the sport just exploded in popularity from that point on.
no, baseball won’t grow to that extreme, but it is already growing and could grow a lot more if someone like ESPN put it out there more than they do.

The national interest in the sport hasn't dictated the need for them to put more money and effort into it.

I agree on one hand but on the other hand, I’m glad. Popularity and money tend to ruin good things. I think it is at the perfect sweet spot right now. I can watch every game, get stats on various sites, and discuss on message boards with those interested. And I can still get tickets at a reasonable price to almost all of the games.

You would see more NCAA baseball if more blacks and Hispanics played. You even see more softball than baseball

Aside from the fact there is very little market for college baseball, it's not as "TV friendly as basketball. A WBB game has much fewer variables than a baseball game. First, the game is played indoors. So barring something completely unexpected, the network, when planning their programming schedule, can be certain the game will go forward as scheduled. With baseball there is always the risk of weather delays/postponement. Two, basketball games are a bit easier to cover. You need a sideline camera in the pressbox and maybe 2 on the floor. That's it. Covering a baseball game probably requires a bit more infrastructure. Finally, basketball games have a relatively certain run time of approximately two hours. Baseball is variable. A game could run less than two hours...or it could go close to four. Again, the program directors like to have more certainty in their schedules.
They'll absorb all of those variables for MLB games because the MLB is significantly more popular. But college baseball isn't. Hell, it wasn't that long ago when you only had a few college baseball games on TV. ESPN has, at least, provided fans the opportunity to view almost every game. That's a very significant step further.
