In honor of tonight's Heisman Trophy ceremony, here is a topic that has the potential to produce a bunch of downvotes and discussion:

1930s: Davey O'Brien, QB, TCU
1940s: Doak Walker, HB, SMU
1950s: Billy Cannon, HB, LSU
1960s: O.J. Simpson, RB, USC
1970s: Earl Campbell, RB, Texas
1980s: Barry Sanders, RB, Oklahoma State
1990s: Ron Dayne, RB, Wisconsin
2000s: Reggie Bush, RB, USC
2010s: Joe Burrow, QB, LSU
2020s: TBD

Dayne is one of the worst. Wisconsin had about 5 more RBs replicate his success behind that cornfed OLine

Not saying that Charles Woodson is the answer for the 90s, but he did win it over Randy Moss and Peyton Manning…that probably makes him at least argument-worthy.

List looks pretty good to me. Except I’d agree with first reply, Williams for 90s. Side note, this new heisman show format? fricking sucks.

Cam Newton 2010s

Obviously Burrow’s run was incredible but that offense was loaded. One qb was throwing to Jamarr Chase, one was throwing to Kodi Burns.

He was a three-time 1st Team All-American and a 3rd Team All-American in his freshman year. I don't think you can call him one of the worst.

Not many Heisman winners that weren’t All Americans

How many of them were 1st Team All-Americans three years in a row? That's why I object to him being labeled as "the worst." He was playing at the highest level for the majority of his collegiate career. It wasn't just a one and done type of season where he somehow snuck away with the trophy.

It’s not a career award. There are bad All American selections also. Wisconsin was a top rushing team for the next two decades with several RBs behind a huge OLine and ground and pound offense. R Dayne was just lucky to be the first. This was understood in retrospect and actually prevented their other RBs including a much better RB like Montee Ball from getting more consideration

Kinda weird that Deion hugged him at least twice as long as his own parent.

And it wasn't in 1999. He rushed for over 1,800 yards and led the nation in rushing TDs.

Him winning over Peyton was a travesty. Peyton was very much the better player.
