Tulane QB Roch Hontas
This popped up on my YT feed. Nice story about a Tulane player who turned down the 1979 NFL draft to go to medical school. Has now been practicing medicine for 40 years and is a surgeon in Covington.
Any old timers on here remember when he was playing for the Green Wave? Kinda like a real life Louisiana Moonlight Graham. Good story.

NFL wasn't great then. He made the right call.

Never heard of him. I do know of his daughter Poca. She was on a stamp one time, I think.

I was a kid and we had season tickets when he played.

That is a name that I haven't heard in a long time. Those days, quarterbacks made good money in the NFL, but not crazy life changing money. Good for him.

Was my uncle qb when he played at Tulane.

Reminds me of Myron Rolle. 5-star DB turned neurosurgeon.

Destroyed LSU 48-7 in 1981.

I wonder if any other Tulane players in '79 played in the NFL.

Led Tulane to 24-13 win over LSU in 1979. Mike McKay was the Tulane qb in 1981.

Did they play in the Dome in the late 70s?

As I recall, he was a 1st Team All-American at center, and decided to go to med school instead of the draft.
