I was hoping to read the rules but nothing can be found

Is this referring to the delay of game that wasn’t called? Happens all the time. Depends on the crew and whether they feel like it’s fair or not to throw the flag.
Eta: They need to incorporate horns and sirens to fix this. If the ball is not snapped at the instant the clock hits 0:00, delay of game.

It’s never fair to throw a flag that would penalize the chiefs

Seems like back in the day there was universal leeway. That clock would hit zero and if he snapped it in the next second they’d let it ride. But in the last 10-20 years they got a lot stricter. Except for the Chiefs they get the old throwback

Which makes zero sense to me. Rules are rules. If the rule sucks, trash it, but don’t leave it to the discretion of a human

The spirit of the rule/officiating philosophy is if the snap is imminent allow an extra second past zero.

Idk I think a bunch of whistles and reviews and technicalities suck more than slavishly following the rules, me

There wasn’t a snap

There was no snap. Play clock clearly expired first.

This is simple time.
It was impossible to get to the two minute warning without an additional play.

I missed the play but I believe you.

The refs use discretion when there is actually a snap.
KC just went to the sideline and let the play clock expire first. No oenalty.

You would certainly think that logically if the play clock is showing 0 and the game clock is showing 1 it doesn’t make sense for a penalty to not be called but apparently that is not the case

It’s literally called delay of game. If you’re gonna blow the whistle, stop play, announce to the crowd, mark off the yardage, maybe review for five minutes to see if the QB was in fact a half second late maybe we can start to see the irony here

They cleared this with the refs. They were prepared to run a play but the refs told them they would allow them to go to the 2 min warning so that’s what they did.

I
thought they explained the rule as "refs have to see the clock hit zero, then in the time it takes them to look from the clock to the ball it can be snapped."
basically, if after the ref see 0.0 on the clock, if the ball is THEN still on the ground, it is a penalty. Which leaves about a half second window to snap it after 0.0

Happens all the time..refs cant look at 2 clocks at once. Look at play clock hit zero then look back at game clock and its done went to zero..happens every game with snaps. Playclock hits zero ref has to look back to see if ball is snapped. Balls get snapped on zero all the time at 0 because of that second delay. They have explained this for years

I was at the game, and nobody understood what was going on, other than Mahomes was talking to the ref and the ref clearly mouthed "you don't have to snap" from what I could see. The bigger thing that everyone didn't understand was the PF in the endzone after the Mahomes TD. Everyone thought it was on Hamlin's hit and started booing the refs (even Chiefs fans).

The game and play clocks need to go to decimals like the NBA shot clock to end all of this.

How this wasn’t delay of game I have no idea, there was no snap and clearly the play clock expired first.
