Reports of Dustin Poirier having his last fight in New Orleans. Anyone know if this will happen?

During Super Bowl LIX week, Poirier revealed to The Schmo that he’s working with the UFC on the final bout of his pro MMA career. “The Diamond” said that the plan is for him to fight in Louisiana this summer. He didn’t reveal the potential opponent.
Sounds like he is trying LINK

In an interview, He said that he would like his last fight to be in Louisiana. I haven’t heard any confirmation. The only opponent I see making sense is Holloway. But people been pushing for Max vs Olivera.

Would be a very cool thing for the UFC to do. Dustin is an OG and has always put on great fights. I just question if it will be a ppv or a fight night.

Poirier mentioned is last week on the radio during Super Bowl week. He said he's in talks with the UFC about doing it this summer. I believe that's all that's known at the moment.

I wonder what Rich Clementi and Melvin Guillard are up to nowadays.

I’d love to see Poirier slap the lips off McGregor again.

Let him beat up Colby Covington & then retire
Or maybe Cowboy, I think he is back in USADA testing
Nvm, Colby is out

I'll never fight Colby in an Octagon where there's finances on the line. If I fight Colby, we're both going to jail. He's not making money off my career and what I've done. You will never see me fight Colby Covington in the UFC.

- Conor McGregor - former two-division UFC Champion
- Alexander Volkanovski - former UFC Featherweight Champion
- Justin Gaethje - former 'BMF' Champion, former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion
- Max Holloway - 'BMF' Champion, former UFC Featherweight Champion
- Charles Oliveira - former UFC Lightweight Champion
- Colby Covington - former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion
"100%," Poirier said of this shortlist of names. "Yeah. If I do fight again, and when I do fight again, it'll be definitely one of those guys you just said."

Has the UFC ever staged a pay per view event in New Orleans?

Dana has held a grudge against New Orleans for nearly a decade now after their June, 2015 Fight Night financial flop at the Smoothie King Center when only 5,000 paid to attend (listed attendance is 6,200 because they comped tickets in order to make the lower bowl look full for television). Poirier was advertised on that card as well. that's why the UFC hasn't been back to NOLA or anywhere in Louisiana ever since.
however, these days Poirier is in a different position and has more pull... could easily see his retirement fight being back in NOLA and this time with a full arena.

quote:
The event was expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between top contenders Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader.[2] However on April 28, due to Jon Jones' hit-and-run incident leading up to his fight at UFC 187 against Anthony Johnson, the UFC decided to strip him of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and suspend him indefinitely. Jones was replaced by Cormier.[3] In turn, a middleweight bout between Tim Boetsch and mixed martial arts legend Dan Henderson was promoted to the main event. Subsequently, Bader was pulled from the event entirely.[4]
A bantamweight bout between Joe Soto and Anthony Birchak was originally expected to take place at UFC 177. However, on the day of weigh ins, Soto was pulled from the fight to replace Renan Barão in a UFC Bantamweight Championship bout against champion T.J. Dillashaw, as Barão had to be admitted to the hospital as a result of his attempts to cut weight. Birchak was removed from the card entirely.[5] The fight was later rescheduled for this event.[6]
Alan Jouban was expected to face Brian Ebersole at the event. However, Jouban pulled out of the fight in late March citing injury and was replaced by Omari Akhmedov.[7]
Zubaira Tukhugov was expected to face Thiago Tavares at the event. However on April 25, it was announced that Tukhugov had to pull out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury.[8] Brian Ortega was announced as his replacement on May 6.[9]
Daniel Sarafian was expected to face Ricardo Abreu at this event. However on May 4, Sarafian was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury and was replaced by Jake Collier.[10]
Both Yancy Medeiros and Leonardo Morales missed weight on their first attempts at the weigh-ins, coming in at 159.5 lb and 140 lb respectively. They were both given additional time to make the weight limits for their respective weight classes, but Medeiros made no attempts to cut further. Morales would miss weight again on his second attempt, coming in at 137 lb. As a result, they were both fined 20 percent of their fight purses, which went to Dustin Poirier and José Alberto Quiñónez respectively.[11]
That's a crazy amount of pre-fight changes.

Gaethje would make the most sense to me. Theyre 1-1 against eachother and are both brawlers. Guess it depends on what Gaethje does against Hooker next month

I wonder if this area can support the type of prices the ufc usually gets for a ppv. Cheapest tickets in the arena are $4-500 each.

No way it’d be a PPV IMO. I think Dana would probably say we’ll do it but you’re going to have to agree to a fight night

I would probably go down there to see it in person first the first time. Waiting on another one to come to Dallas or even Austin.

UFC hall of fame lock! I went to one of his first fights maybe his 3rd or 4th one. Can't wait to see him close out his career down here.
