I'm a loyal fan of both, and both were special.

My take, the Saints winning the Super Bowl.

It's the highest level, it's a bigger event, and historically LSU had one national title already and had been close at times (and has since gone on to play for and win several more).

We just never expected the Saints to win one, not in our lifetime. A history of being one of the worst franchises in the league, had the long "no winning season" streak, then could never win a game in the playoffs.

2009 was incredible. Not only were we building momentum from the post-Katrina era, we beat everybody's favorites to get there (Favre) and to win (Manning). It shook the NFL so much they changed the OT rules because of that; "poor Brett never got the ball, we have to fix that".

And let's give some love to Tracy Porter. Kid from Port Allen, La, who otherwise had an okay career, with the 2 biggest plays in franchise history: picking Favre off when they were driving for the winning FG in the NFC championship, and pick-six on Manning when he was driving to tie the Super Bowl late.

LSU...

Then LSU having the GOAT Team in 2019 will never be topped. Ever.

The Saints will never win another Super Bowl. The NFL is rigged for a few select teams and the Saints won't be one of them after Bounty Gate. The NFL let the Saints know this when they rigged the NFCCG a few years ago.

LSU, despite playing in a crooked conference, will win another one eventually.

How quickly people forget how big of a deal that Saints Super Bowl was.

Every single Super Bowl is bigger than the biggest events in the history of college sports.

And the Saints win meant something else after the Katrina recovery.

I personally have always been more of a college football than NFL fan, but only the most deluded koolaid drinkers could think the OP’s question is even up for debate.

Correct. But that’s using the entire country and world as your source

To Louisiana, LSU is bigger than the saints

I would have agreed with this before the Saints actually won it. I will never forget driving home after the Super Bowl and seeing hundreds of cars in Academy's parking lot at 11pm on a Sunday just to get a Super Bowl Champions shirt, seeing people roll down their windows at red lights just to yell "WHO DAT!" at strangers, and seeing people literally crying with joy after watching them win. It was wild and I will never forget it. For reference, this was in Lafayette, not New Orleans.

that's just more of those lifelong fans that all miraculously turned ticket buying age in 2006.

those "fans" came out of the woodworks like roaches after they won.

those people were nowhere to be found even 10 years prior.
hell they even needed to get a 24 hour extension in 2000 to see enough tickets for a freaking playoff game to not be blacked out locally.

in 2005, LSU would put 92,000 plus in Tiger Stadium on a Saturday Night, then the next day, The Saints maybe get 15,000 in the same building.

Some of us were sober enough to remember the Hallman and Dinardo years, chief. You don't get to talk shite about bandwagon fans.

ok,
LSU - Oklahoma ('03 season)
LSU - Ohio State ('07 season)
LSU - Alabama ('11 season)
LSU - Clemson ('19 season)

all were larger crowds than the largest the Saints have ever pulled in at the Superdome.

note: here is where you say "but they configure the dome differently"

and my retort is, if they honestly thought they could sell an extra 6,000 tickets, they would configure it that way for the Saints too. Especially in the playoffs.

You do realize that LSU played those championship games in New Orleans? Do you know what the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana would be like if the Saints played in and won a Super Bowl in the Superdome? LSU's crowds and the amount of people in the city for those national championship games would look small in comparison, that I know for sure.

Saints, easy.

Of course, I chose to go somewhere else for college. Same for a lot of Louisiana folks.

All the rebuilding from Katrina and goodwill the Saints had at the time that kinda got eroded since then. It was just massive to see them win.

NFC Championship Game for the 2009 Season.
in the Super Dome.

Saints first ever trip to NFC Championship.
a trip to first ever Super Bowl on the Line

Attendance = 71,261

LSU vs Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl at end of 2006 Season (not even the National Title Game)

Attendance = 77,781

Is there like some reason they can’t use the 77,000 seat configuration for Saints games?

What do they change to get that difference in crowd?

I don't know the reason.
I just know they don't.

Hell even the Super Bowl doesn't draw the same crowds as LSU at the Sugar Bowl.

I'm not sure what they do differently.

Super Bowls in the 70's and 80's drew 76,000 range
Mid 80s it dropped to 73,000 range
last few have been 71,000 range

Current configuration for Saints games maxes out somewhere in the 73,208 is listed as Capacity for football and expandable to 76,468.

they don't expand it for Saints playoff games, but do expand it for some Bowl games but apparently not all of them.
The Alabama Clemson playoff game in 2018 drew 72,000
the LSU Clemson title game drew 76,000+

It looks like constant renovations and changes to seating are why it goes up and down from what I can find. Looks like they are constantly adding and removing around 3000 seats here and there.
