Wasn't sure where to put this so figured MSB would be my best bet...

I have a pair of Kobe Bryant game worn shoes from either the '96 or '97 season. We got them through a local charity event in New Orleans. In the past ~30 years my dad isn't sure where the original paperwork is and I'd like to get them authenticated. I read PSA and Beckett but it seems like those are geared towards cards. Do they do large memorabilia like this? Is there anyone locally in Louisiana that does this (I'd prefer not to have to ship the shoes anywhere).

Are those rape-worn shoes?

JSA for auto authenticity
Mears to verify that they are Game-Used.

Neither are infallible bc it’s the wild west these days but both are generally very well respected

Triple T type in JSA authentication in google. Go to that site and click on the state you are in and it should pull up upcoming shows near you. I would personally bring them in and fill out the paperwork at the show. Usually takes about an hour for them to authenticate the item. If it’s legit they will give you an authentication card with a certified number and enter it into their database. I have done several items over the years. Good luck

I am quite disappointed - first time I’ve opened the box in about 10 years and the autograph is in really bad shape. It’s been stored away from light in a closet the entire time. No clue how this happened

Humidity, wear from rubbing against other objects in the box

I don’t think anything was rubbing on it. Box legit hasn’t moved and that’s how it was oriented when I opened the top. I could see humidity since I’m in south LA. Damn, don’t think it’s even worth trying to authenticate at this point

The autograph might not be worth authenticating, but the shoe still would be if you think its game used.

That sucks, was it just on 1 shoe? It is likely the pen used on that surface

Are Sharpies the best to use?

It really depends on what is being signed. I have a signed helmet collection that sharpies are best for but certain pens are best for baseballs. I’m not sure about shoes and jerseys.
