He was sponsored by Barstool for a year but not anymore. Molly McCann was as well.

Erceg has lost three in a row. Agree on Lopes though, even after losing to Volk.

Obviously I meant during their runs to a title shot.

I HATE seeing someone move up or down and get an immediate title shot.
That's fair, but a champ getting an immediate title shot against another champ in a different weight class has been the precedent in the UFC for a long time.

As Topuria pointed out on Rogan, did they make Henry Cejudo take a contender fight before fighting the champion? Did they make Conor do that? Did they make GSP do that? Did they make Jon Jones do that?

And were any of those guys forced to vacate their belt to get their immediate title shot? Why is everything being changed around to make it more difficult and less satisfying (won't get to hold both belts at once in true double champ style if he wins) for Topuria?

Who do you think Islam should have to fight before getting a chance to take on the welterweight champ?

Another interesting question--does Islam himself feel like he has to take a contender fight to prove himself at welterweight before he gets a title shot?

Of course not.

Why the double standard for Topuria?

UFC brass promised him a title shot. Made him give up his belt for it, which no champ has been forced to do before moving up a weight class. Topuria is undefeated. He just knocked out Volkanovski and Max.

The Islam / Khabib / Javier narrative that Topuria has to prove himself is horses***. Maybe Islam destroys Topuria. Great, I just want to see it.

I don’t think the ufc liked him moving to 155.

Then they shouldn't have promised him the title shot.

Topuria hates the weight cut for featherweight. What else does he have to do at featherweight anyway? Diego just lost to Volk, and Topuria KO'd Volk. Evloev? Yair? Ortega? Jean Silva?

Some of the UFC's best / most popular fighters became double champs. They are historic moments. Topuria-Islam is one of the biggest fights they could possibly make right now.

What do they have against Topuria? His cockiness? That he's short? Volk is an inch shorter. Max is one inch taller than Islam. Do they not like Islam moving to 170? Will they force Islam to relinquish his belt to move up? And take a contender fight before he gets a shot at the welterweight belt?

As opposed to what? Volk has beaten everyone else in the division and Topuria destroyed Volk. And Topuria is only like 28, he’d likely destroy everyone in featherweight for the next several years. At 155, there’s a ton of entertaining fights to make involving him

Nope, there's a picture of him within a week of 314 weighing 200

They clearly didn’t like the move and tried to force him to stay at 145 by making him give up the belt. I don’t know the exact reason but it was very clear to me when Dana made that announcement that he wasn’t happy with it.

What do we think his weight was on fight day since his weight on weigh in day is due to the insane weight cut and not an actual weight?

I'd guess his fight day weight was probably closer to the 198 being reported in thw week after UFC 314 than the 156 from UFC 314 weigh in.

As long as he doesn't blow up to the puffy fat kid like in the past, with little to no working out, he's fine.

Every fighter who isn't a Heavyweight re-hydrates after the weigh in but not by 48 fricking pounds overnight

This isn't hard to understand. Its perfectly fine to re-hydrate 10 to even 25 pounds after a weigh in. Becoming addicted to Taco Bell and Burger King in between fights isn't.

Roberto Duran used to do that shite between fights. When he was fighting at welterweight (147 lbs.) he often balloon up to 180+ not long after those fights.

That was one of the main reasons Sugar Ray Leonard wanted a quick turnaround on a rematch after he lost in Montreal to Duran. He knew Duran blew up and it would be a task to lose that weight AND get in fighting shape so quickly. The result was the now infamous "No Mas" fight.

And he ruined himself. Same with Arturo Gatti and many many others. You can't keep ballooning up like that and then cutting weight over and over it taxes the body. Riddick Bowe was a Heavyweight and ruined himself doing that. The body can only take so much.

It's obvious why they didn't like the move. Topuria beat Volk and Holloway then claimed he "did all he could" at 145 and pressed Dana to move to lightweight.

One title defense...

So instead of actually clearing out the division and building up even more hype for a potential superfight down the road, Topuria decides he is entitled to an immediate title fight with Islam. At this point, I hope it happens just to watch Topuria get disassembled by Islam.
