Why don't more college teams play inside of a dome?

Is there a stigma that comes with it that major D1 schools want to avoid? Off the top of my head, I can only think of 3 FBS schools that do so, Syracuse, Tulane, and Idaho, and Tulane wants out.

Why do more CFB teams play outside than inside?

the environment sucks for college gameday experience, plus college is all about tradition, and domed stadiums have never been tradition until the 70's long after mostly all the college programs were started

Minnesota used to, but has since moved to an outdoor on-campus stadium.

i think the 1st dome stadium was built in the mid 60's, most legit college football programs had stadiums already.

the other smaller programs are typically not in large metro areas and a small, cheaper stadium works for them.

The small programs that are in metro areas use domes that are there already - as you mentioned.

There are lots of D1 college teams that pull 80K + for some games. A Dome that size would be cost prohibitive.

Syracuse doesn't have crowds nearly that large so their Dome makes sense for them. It's a small football arena and a large basketball arena.
