Why is Walter Clayton a 2nd round prospect?

Dude is mocked in the 2nd round in most drafts. He's a winning basketball player and would love to have him on the Pels.

I would guess because he's 22 and they think his game is already maxed out and he's a defensive liability, but I'd still take him in the first. You could have said the same thing about Lillard coming out of college.

Old. It’s a really deep draft of guards as well. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s taken in the first, maybe even at the end of the lottery, but this is a really good draft class. If he came out against last year’s draft class he’d probably have been a top 10 pick.

He definitely went on a Kemba Walker type of run and kemba was drafted 9th overall. I think Clayton will end up somewhere in the top half of the first round

I doubted the hype, but he is great!

NBA players play well into their mid 30s, 22 doesn't seem too "old" to me.

It is when compared to guys that are 3, 4 years younger. Especially ones that are longer, more athletic, and possess a much higher floor.

He's a relatively small guard who doesn't play great defense and is a good but not elite scorer. He has a very low floor if his scoring ability doesn't translate to the NBA

I think for him it's strictly age and size

quote:22 isn’t old, but would you rather have a really good 19 year old or a really good 22 year old? You’d assume the 19 year old will be a lot better at 22 than he is at 19. In other words, the 22 year old is closer to his ceiling.

Look at the Houston Rockets. Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Amen Thompson, Tari Eason, etc… they’re all 21 to 23 years old, and have already been in the league for 2 to 4 years. They’re already seasoned players. They’re the same age as Walter Clayton who will be a rookie and just getting started.

Age and also the mocks were completed before the tourney

In today's NBA, if you don't leave college after 1 or 2 years, teams start to get suspicious.

Maybe I'm profiling here, but I don't think Clayton has nearly the athleticism as Lillard.

In the current environment and CBA, it might as well be 'on death's doorstep'-- its not just old, its almost prohibitive.
