Les Miles was an o lineman. Saban was a d-back. The times have changed. No doubt size and training are important, but talent and knowledge of the game is just as important.

So with modern nutrition and training he probably would have been more like 6'4" and 235 lbs and had a much faster 40 time than he had back in his day.

Well that's pretty average for tigerdroppings posters

He would be stronger/faster because of training differences. You, however, would be just as dumb in the the future.

Red Grange was the best white athlete of his time. Can the best white athlete of this era start? If so, than so could Red.

that RB from Stanford is white and he starts and almost won the Heisman this year, so for sure Red Grange would be a star player in college these days.

He would be a lot bigger stronger and faster if he were born in the 1990's instead of the 1890's or whenever he matriculated.

Keep in mind they weren't allowed to carry the ball while dribbling, walking was illegal, and no stiff arms to get a shot off in those days.

It would depend on where he was.

He could play for Boise today. Just like he could play for the Boise of the 60's - Alabama.

If he played for Bama and the pure white 60's and 70's Schedule he could play because it would be easy.

But if he played for Michigan or Ohio State - he probably would not start in that era. Bama and the SEC he would be a star compared to what the Big 10 produced - back in the 60'and 70's but Ohio State he wouldn't even start over Archie and ever seen the field.

So it depends upon where he was.

He couldn't play today. He could only play during the 50's and 60's.

Well shite, using your logic could Einstein play in today's physics environment? There are all sorts of college freshmen who know more than he ever did about physics.

Were they not allowed to reach their hands above the rim either?

Comparing the development and talent of one generation to another is futile. We live in the present, as they did, and they were the most talented, gifted athletes that were allowed to play in the leagues they played.

I can accept this, but it would be nice if the Dukke Vs of the world could accept the fact that without modern training and strength programs, the players of yesteryear are significantly inferior to modern players.

It is perfectly fair to say that Bob Cousy would be a dynamic player in the league today if he was born in 1988 instead of 1928, but it is equally fair to say that Curry can and would run circles around 1955 Bob Cousy. It drives me nuts to hear people say that the modern NBA (or any other league) players would get destroyed by the great teams from 25+ years ago when it is simply untrue.

The 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors would win a 7 game series against the 1985-1986 Boston Celtics, and it probably isn't that close. You can argue that the Celtics would be unstoppable if they had modern strength and conditioning programs, and you're probably right, but without them, they'd get beat and it is as simple as that.

Since we're going back in time, just remember that a saber tooth tiger would be damn near unstoppable in today's game.

I know. It's weird not seeing traveling evrytime the ball is brought down the court or on drives to the basket.

The only people who ever complain about this are old white guys that don't know shite about basketball anyways. Probably never even played.

Would Jimmy Brown dominate as he did in the 60s. I don't think so.
Gayle Sayers was awesome in his day but Barry Sanders, IMO was better.

Players get bigger/stronger/faster and rules change

Red Grange never intended to play college football, his fraternity brother convinced him using a wooden paddle. He wanted to compete in track and basketball. He was the Penn. State high school champion in the high jump, long jump, 100 yard dash, and 220 yard dash.
