Yes, they were like peas and carrots.
Peas and carrots without a healthy T cell count.

I like to think that he knocked her up before she contracted HIV, and thus he and little Forest lived a long, healthy life without their societal drain of a mother/wife.
However, in my heart of hearts I know that it really isn't Forest's child, and she was just looking to pawn him off on someone that she could easily fool and manipulate and that she knows would take good care of him forever.

didn't the head lean when both were watching TV show that they were related?

She most likely was HIV positive when she had sex with Forrest. Earlier in the movie she was clearly shooting up and sharing needles (syringes are shown littering the floor) and sleeping with dirty druggy hippies. Because she led an unhealthy lifestyle and abused her body she likely had a large viral load too. I felt if she had Hep she would have said so. The movie differs significantly from the book.
Forrest Jr has AIDS, that’s a given. Retrovirals were non existent at that time so he contracted the virus in utero from Jenny. I’m guessing he lived to somewhere around age 10-14 before succumbing to the disease.
It is possible that Forrest did not contract the virus. I’m sure that Jenny had sex with him only the one time and I’m sure it was quick, gentle sex. She most likely rode him softly for about 5 minutes. She left in the wee hours the next morning. I don’t think they had sex again, even after marriage. While the virus can be transmitted with only a single encounter, transmission is not a given and sometimes is not completed. So it is very possible that he did not contract the virus in which case he cares for Forrest Jr. before burying him next to Jenny and Momma then lives on alone.
In the other very possible scenario where Forrest does contract the virus and dies of AIDS, I like to think that he does not suffer and die alone. I think Lieutenant Dan comes back to care for him at the end.

Damn, that's dark. Now I'm not going to be able to watch the movie again without worrying about this

I have wondered about this as well. Anyone could be the father. We have Jenny’s word, a known sexual encounter, and a head lean to support the notion that Forrest Jr. is Forrest’s child. Jenny knows she is declining in health, needs help, and has no family or close, reliable friends. The boy’s father is most likely a deadbeat and she may not even know who the father is in this scenario. She contacts Forrest again (because she needs something again, the only time when she contacts him) and falsely tells him that he is the boy’s father. The child will be taken care of now.
She absolutely would do something like that and I wouldn’t be surprised in the least. Jenny was a broken, selfish, incapable woman.

No, Winston Groom wrote a sequel to Forrest Gump.

Part of the bitter sweetness of the film is that you’re left to come up with some fricked up scenarios in your head about it

The book and the movie are two different stories.
Forrest is a physics genius in the book. He’s essentially Sheldon from Big Bang.

Anytime I see a thread about Forrest Gump, I’m reminded of the first reply in this thread.

Jenny doesn’t die in the book she does however die along with her husband in the second book if I remember correctly. Also little Forrest is Jenny and her husbands son Gump just takes care of him when they die. Jenny was pretty straight laced in the book Forrest went the wild route hanging out with (white) Bubba and Ken Stabler at Alabama.

That can be true but the chances could be much higher if the female is symptomatic. There is a little info about Jenny in this area other than fatigue.
As I said previously, the likelihood that she had sex with Forrest the one time, and that it was probably quick, gentle sex, and taking the assumption that she was not menstruating during intervourse, helps the probability that the virus was not transmitted to Forrest.
I think the most likely scenario is that Forrest was not infected. Forrest Jr was infected in utero and was cared for by Forrest until his death and buried next to Jenny and Momma. Whether the child was actually the child of Forrest is not known with certainty but I’m leaning toward more likely than not that he was.

It’s just about the only good choice she makes. She didn’t want him to end up in the hands of someone like her father. It’s mess up but it’s best choice
