Actually unpopular opinion: Family Guy is better than Simpsons and South Park

This refers more to the older Family Guy seasons than the newer ones. I agree the quality has fallen off for them, while Matt & Trey are still going strong with South Park
But while Seth McFarlane was deeply involved in Family Guy, its laughs hit harder and was more memorable for me than Simpsons or South Park. See the Passion of the Christ 2 thread for an example
Seth’s inside knowledge of Hollywood and how much he shared within Family Guy is unparalleled
Predicting Bruce Jenner
Kevin Spacey
Many more - and they’re much better than the Simpsons “predictions” which are more events that happened by coincidence to be similar to the show. These Family Guy ones were known within Hollywood

I don't think you're giving early South Park enough credit.
First 4 or so seasons of Family Guy are legit though.

Bob's Burgers crushes all of them

Simpsons had a great 90s run but fell off when South park came out. SP is more consistent than the test but the first 3 seasons of FG can go against the best of the others.

But SP? Not even close

This show should never, ever be mentioned in the same breathe as South Park.

They're all different and good in their own ways. But the more I watch Bob's Burgers the more I love it and keep moving it up my list.

Sideshow Bob is the best side character of all the shows.

I mean, just look at this first season for South Park
Some absolute classics in there.
First season of Family Guy:
Episodes 1 and 4 are personal favorites, but South Parks wins IMO. I never got huge into the Simpsons, so I can't really speak to that.
quote:
1 "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe"
2 "Volcano"
3 "Weight Gain 4000"
4 "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride"
5 "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig"
6 "Death"
7 "Pinkeye"
8 "Starvin' Marvin"
9 "Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo"
10 "Damien"
11 "Tom's Rhinoplasty"
12 "Mecha-Streisand"
13 "Cartman's Mom Is a Dirty Slut"
Some absolute classics in there.
First season of Family Guy:
quote:
1 Death Has a Shadow
2 I Never Met the Dead Man
3 Chitty Chitty Death Bang
4 Mind Over Murder
5 A Hero Sits Next Door
6 The Son Also Draws
7 Brian: Portrait of a Dog
Episodes 1 and 4 are personal favorites, but South Parks wins IMO. I never got huge into the Simpsons, so I can't really speak to that.

I prefer American Dad to Family Guy.

The number of people saying American Dad is better is insane to me. I gave it a lot of tries and never enjoyed it

Nothing beats The Simpson's in the 90s. That was some of the greatest comedic writing ever.
But everything beats the Simpsons from around 2000-present. It's crazy how bad that show has gotten. I will watch the occasional new episode for nostalgia's sake and they are awful. I think I read somewhere that they are down to like 300k viewers and have been losing money vs production costs for a while. It's long past time that show be killed.

Prime family guy was better than prime simpsons but worse than prime south park
Average family guy is on par with average simpsons, maybe a little better.
Bad simpsons is better than bad south park and bad family guy.
Typically, though, South Park > Family Guy > The Simpsons
American Dad >>>>>>>>>> Family Guy >>>>> The Cleveland Show

exactly this. People keep comparing family guy or south park or whatever else to "the simpsons" while not really pointing out that the show is fricking 30 years old. There's a whole lot of utter crap in there so yeah obviously some things at their peak are going to be better than the low points of thge simpsons.
But if we're stirctly comparing highs with highs, it's not even close. That roughly 5-7ish year window from like season 3ish to 9ish of the simpsons is up there with best comedies of all time, animated or not. Seinfeld, 30 rock, arrested development, curb, office, you name it...that peak simpsons era is up there wiht all of them.

When South Park came out in 97. I never seen anything like it. An aminated show with 8 year olds cursing like that was unreal.
