Figured I'd share my thoughts on this program to anyone who might have considered it but haven't pulled the trigger for one reason or another.

To start, I was a moviepass person last year (And 2017), right up until the same thing happened to everyone on it, suddenly, you couldn't watch anything, anywhere it seemed like. Sure, it was great for $10/mo (I actually did the $99 for a full year back in 2017) while it lasted, but it was never sustainable.

I live in the Atlanta area, and when AMC came out with A-list, at first it was hard to swallow a $19.99/mo (double moviepass monthly) premium. However, AMC is all over the place in Atlanta, with several premium theaters, including their newer Dolby Cinema theaters which ARE INCLUDED in the membership. they built a Dolby Cinema at my local AMC in Smyrna, GA, so I figured I had to give it a try. For those that dont know what Dolby Cinema is, it's AMC's version of HDR projection and Dolby Atmos sound. The difference is downright staggering, OLED like black levels, bright highlights and amazing sound (they even put bass shakers in the recliners).

My first few movies were First Man and Bohemian Rhapsody in Dolby Cinema, and right away the membership basically paid for itself. Where I live, Dolby Cinema is $21+ per ticket on the weekend in prime times, and still about $18 during the week ($11 on "$5" Tuesdays). So basically, 1 trip to a Dolby Cinema showing pays for my monthly membership now.

The system is ridiculously easy to use - you can reserve your tickets through the A-list app the moment they go on sale (Way ahead of time), for my theater, it's all reserved seating, so you choose your own seats while you reserve your free seat (Dolby Cinema, 3D, IMAX or regular digital all included in membership). I can purchase additional tickets for other people as well when I get mine, and you just pay for the ticket, all fees are waived. The ONE drawback to buying tickets for others is they HAVE to be with you when you go in, because there's just 1 digital ticket for all the tickets you buy to a showing, and no way to "Send" that digital ticket to them - it can only be scanned once in.

Basically, I will be seeing my 29th movie on this program since joining on Oct27th of last year. So that's about 4-5 movies per month roughly speaking I've been seeing, the majority in Dolby Cinema which costs $18-$21 typically. So yeah, a TON of saved money. Have to say I highly recommend A-List if you've got AMC in your area, especially if you have a Dolby Cinema or IMAX theater, it's a steal.

Here's the TL, DR
Pros:
- $20/mo ($22/mo now I think) is easily worth it if you have Dolby Cinema/IMAX super expensive tickets, it's included
- ANY AMC theater type is included: Dolby Cinema, IMAX, Dine in, 3D, Digital, etc...
- App is very easy to use, and can reserve tickets way ahead of time, and buy tickets for others with fees waived
- Get into Premiere concession line to skip regular concession line (usually much shorter where I am)
- You get 100 points for every dollar spent on concessions and your monthly A-list charge (5,000 points gets you a $5 reward to use), for those bad at math, this means every $50 you spend you get a $5 reward to use, or effective rewards rate of 10%
- Free size upgrade on popcorn/drink, basically if you get a large drink and popcorn, they take a couple bucks off price for what a medium drink/popcorn costs
- Get a free large popcorn and drink on your birthdate each year (to use within that month)
- 3 movies per week allowed, to me, this is basically unlimited as I've never even seen 3 movies but maybe once in a week

Cons:
- When reserving a ticket for others, no way to send them a ticket, they must enter with you into theater as only 1 digital ticket gets generated for any number of seats
- Separate account for each user, it's a 1 size fits all platform, each person has their own login and must have smartphone/internet connected device to be able to use it...only ONE plan type, no "lite" plan, or "family" plan
- Going to $20-$22/mo is a big commitment for a lot of people, especially coming from $10/mo moviepass or no subscription service at all
- You definitely end up going to a lot more movies, not sure if this is a con, but yeah, they're getting you in there to spend money on concession because that's where all their bottom line basically comes from anyways

I had it for a bit. I also live in Atlanta. Would sometimes hop off at the Buckhead station and walk to the the Phipps theater which is a great theater. Waiting for the AMC Grant Park to open up so I will have one within walking distance.

If you cancel you have to wait 6 months before renewing...did not bother me but may bother someone else.

Have way way way less problems with it when compared to MoviePass.

I went to the AMC Dine in one up in buckhead and just wasn't very impressed. Uncomfortable cheap computer chairs and the service was ridiculously bad.

Then again, the one by me (AMC Parkway Pointe 15) is a bit spoiling because all the theaters in it are leather reserved power recliner seating, easily the best way to watch movies.

This is why I've stopped buying concessions at AMC. I'm not waiting twice as long while an endless stream of AMC A-Listers gets bumped to the front of the line.

They've recently moved to having 1 maybe 2 cashiers do A-list/premiere line and the rest (2 others usually) do regular customers by me...people would get testy in the regular line when they would all ask for premiere/a-list first over and over and they were being "skipped"

A different concept at my parent's AMC down on southside of Atl they go to, there, you go to a central station to order, then literally go pick up your popcorn yourself (a bunch just sitting out there), on the honor system. No idea how that works, but...not a terrible idea in getitng lines to move faster

This needs to happen everywhere. They managed to make purchasing overpriced popcorn at a movie theater a worse experience than it already was. It's already too expensive. If I have to get to my movie an hour early just to buy popcorn I'm just not going to buy popcorn. I imagine I'm not alone in that regard.

Not sure why this is a problem if you have reserved seats. If you buy tickets without A-List you have the same situation.

If you're a couple, it's extremely easy. We just check out the seats on the app while we're together, decide what we want and buy them on our apps. Worst case, I text her to see if she can go to the app, then tell her what seat to buy.

I paid $30 to $40 a month for MoviePass for four years before they screwed things up with the $9.95 plan. $20 a month is nothing for someone who goes to the movies.

If you have to buy concessions to see a movie, that's on you. What's great for "3 movies a week" is that if my wife is out with her friends or her family, I can put a bottle of water in my pocket and go see a movie by myself. There's no fear of buyer's remorse preventing me from seeing a new type of movie. I never would've seen a Fast and Furious movie without MoviePass. I went to one and realized they're just big stupid fun and I enjoyed the hell out of them.

Meeting up with people you bought tickets for, it's a pain sometimes if it's a group, because you have to wait for everyone before you go in. So if 1 person is running late, well, everyone is late.

For instance yesterday I bought a ticket for my friend to go see Endgame with me. With a little better coordination we probably wouldnt have had this happen, but I got there like 15 minutes before he did, so I had to wait for him to get there before even going in, couldnt even wait at Macguffins (bar) or anything. He was just running a little late so I had to wait for him since I bought him a ticket through a-list. It would just be easier if there was a way to send a digital bar code to others you bought tickets for they can use to get in on their own. If AMC was smart, they would make it so you have to receive it through the APP so those others also have to use the AMC app to get in (bigger chance they sign up downloading app).

Same here with my wife, people with kids though I know just wish they had a family plan where oyu can add kids for like an additional $10-$15/mo or something to your own plan. A lot of those kids obviously dont have phones/tablets to use if they are young.

But it's likely a steep commitment for those who just occasionally go which was my point. I probably would go maybe once a month if that before moviepass, then I went obviously more often with moviepass, now I go 4-5 times a month on A-List, so in my case it easily pays for itself.

For someone like me previous to moviepass, I could see $20+ being a big commitment.
