I have wanted to like this show for years but the crowd reaction shots every 30 seconds makes the show cringy as hell to me.
Normal people in an audience do not make stupid faces and shite in real life like they do on this fake arse show.
If they would take the crowd shots out - it might be a decent show to watch

Seems like there are more foreigners on it with acts than Americans anymore.

My sister & I went to the auditions they did at UNO way back during the Simon & Demi era. Free entrance for all. If you dress up in colorful/stylish clothes, which we didn't, they'd seat you behind or close to the judges in the camera field of view.
In between acts, with the stage and/or judges seats empty, there was a hype man that would rev up a certain section of the arena while cameras were zooming in or a camera man was in that section filming a certain staged cheering row. Thoughout the night, they'd pick different sections. All for B-roll fake crowd reactions they could edit in later.
It was about 3+ hours for roughly 20 auditions. When the show aired, they used about 5 acts for the 30 min "New Orleans" segment. I don't know if they actually needed the B-roll bc the acts that made it to air got genuine applause.

Wait until OP finds out that the crowd reaction shots are used like B-roll and aren’t necessarily filmed during the performance they are shown in.
